arisha: (escaflowne van)
As of yesterday, I have finished my first full rewatch of the anime Vision of Escaflowne since the last time my friends and I marathoned it, which I suspect was in 2009. (It's true that last year I said I was rewatching it, but due to a lack of emotional fortitude I stopped three episodes from the end so it doesn't count. I also attempted a rewatch while I was in Japan but after watching the first five episodes in one night I got busy and kind of forgot I was doing it, whoops.) I am very happy to say that, fifteen years after I first saw it, I still love it completely. (Fifteen years omg, fifteen years is the same age as the protagonists of this thing.) I was a little worried that I wouldn't, not because of anything Escaflowne does but because this year has been a year of discovering I no longer like shows that I used to love! I attempted to rewatch Reba, Blossom, and Disney's Hercules and couldn't make it through any of them. I also read all of Full House Reviewed in a weekend and enjoyed it thoroughly but it's made me terrified to rewatch Full House for fear I will hate it, and if that happens then there goes my childhood! (In all honesty I am really not looking foward to Fuller House, although I'm glad it's providing Scott Weinger with the first regular non-Aladdin work he's had in quite some time.)

Well all that is off-topic when all I want is to ramble forever about Escaflowne like the good old days. <3

(GINORMOUS AND UNFORGIVING SPOILER WARNING)

The dragon still lacks the courage to cross the line. )

To avoid ending this awkward entry on that awkward note, here are the ten most played songs in my Escaflowne playlist:

Today SUCKED but now it's OVER. Let's do a MEME! I love these interview memes, hahaha. This time it was [livejournal.com profile] athena_crikey who asked the questions. Read more... )

Feel free to ask me to ask you five questions! x)
arisha: (Default)
1) Look up ten of your favourite movies on IMDb.
2) Click the "trivia" link in the sidebar.
3) Post a fun and random bit of trivia from each film.

I don't know if I trust all of the trivia that gets uploaded to IMDb, and I don't really feel that there are ten movies I would consider my favourites, but never mind that - let's have a go! :D

I fail and am currently without an appropriate icon, but tonight is my friends and my annual Escaflowne marathon!! After this exciting all-nighter I will come home and sleep, and then I will drag myself up again to go to work in the evening. Over a day without Internet, you guys!! I am never going to catch up. D:

Anyway, I shall leave you with my favourite Esca AMV: El Tango de Hitomi.
arisha: (potc3 liz)
haha okay so I've had this uploaded for two days now so I guess I better finally link to it. xD; Even more of a hack video than my "Chain" video, may I present to you ...

Pirates of the Caribbean - "Dance of Curse"

(I say it is even hackier than the other one because can you find where I stopped making edits? xD; )

With my "Chain" video, I definitely prefer the original music in that scene. But with this one? MAN! I vote "Dance of Curse" makes everything more awesome than it already is. xD; I especially like how it fits at the end of my hacky video, where the "There's no boats" line is made all exciting and stuff. xD; But as I told [livejournal.com profile] athena_crikey, I ran out of song before I ran out of battle scene, and while I considered redoing it or making a sequel, I have since decided against it. Making hacky videos is fun but only to a point. xD;

And with that, even though my love for Pirates continues to border on the ridiculous, I think I shall pull my next fanvid from a totally different movie. (Exciting!!) Well, first, a little ramble about my 'Broken Hearted Soul' video. )
arisha: (Default)
So I don't know if any of you are even interested in watching this, but here is a video I made while frustrated with the other video I am making x) :

Pirates of the Caribbean - "Chain"

Escaflowne BGM + the end of AWE + minimal (but still kinda obvious) editing = YouTubey goodness?

And just so this entry isn't totally useless, I shall link you to a charming French music video I stumbled upon yesterday (there's a subtitled version for those of you who don't pretend to be Francophones x) ). Well I only call it "charming" for lack of a better word; I think I often underestimate the power of the short subject but man, the ending of this thing gives me shivers. xD;

There is a weekly Escaflowne rewatch/discussion thinger going on at [livejournal.com profile] escafans, and I vote you all join in. xD AS IF I NEED AN EXCUSE TO REWATCH ESCAFLOWNE. I just watched the first two episodes and wrote a rather ridiculous and long comment on the entry for episode two. FUN FACT: I don't remember if I've ever admitted this before or not, but the tail end of the second episode was the very first bit of Escaflowne I ever saw (when I was thirteen! almost EIGHT YEARS AGO OH MY GOD), and the reasons I continued to watch the series are thus: 1) the choral music reminded me of the Hunchback of Notre Dame music, which is awesome; 2) the episode ends on a shot of a city burning to the ground, and even then I was a Trojan War fangirl. So. xD

When I watch Escaflowne now I watch it without subtitles, and I wish I could say this proudly and be all "I watch it without subtitles because I am fluent in Japanese!" but lawl, no, the reason I watch it without subtitles is more because I feel I have watched it too many times now to justify watching it with subtitles. I don't know if this will make any sense to anyone else but that is how I feel about the matter. :P

So anyway SPEAKING OF MY TROJAN WAR FANGIRLISM, which I'm sure we were, Read more... )

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs.

Aha, I love that it says "even if they're not any good." xD; I shall use that as a built-in disclaimer for this entry.

arisha: (kanashimi twilight 意味がない)
Last summer I watched the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, and believed it to be the most HEARTWRENCHING but simultaneously AWESOME thing I would ever see. Well, I was wrong. PotC3 took the combination of HEARTWRENCHING and AWESOME and kicked it up about six thousand notches.

SEVERE SPOILERS, I AM NOT KIDDING )

MAN, Pirates is AWESOME!!!!! XD

Oh, and unrelated: the Enchanted trailer was played before the movie, and it actually looks more amusing than I have been giving it credit for (although I'm a bit bitter that they played clips of everyone's favourite Disney animation classics and then were like LOOK WHAT WE HAVE NOW, when the animation quality of Enchanted appears to be rather below that of, say, The Lion King), but it made me think of a Maclean's article I recently read that was discussing the popularity of the Shrek films. I definitely didn't agree with everything this article said (mainly because it was like, "ALL TEENAGERS HATE DISNEY AND THINK ITS ANIMATION IS UGLY" - wait, what??), but one thing it said was that one of the reasons Shrek is popular is that it pokes fun at Disney where Disney cannot poke fun at itself. But Enchanted looks like it has its moments of poking fun at Disney. It will be interesting to see how it actually turns out.

I went to my second Loreena McKennitt concert tonight. :) The first time I saw her in concert, I was eleven, and I wrote an exhaustive trip report that I still have but am too embarrassed to reread, as is the case with most of the writing I did when I was eleven. XD I won't do the same thing with tonight's concert, because I definitely enjoyed it, but just don't really have anything that worthwhile to say about it. ^^; Oh well, that's okay.

My brother took me to see Meet the Robinsons tonight and it was the best. :D I'll definitely write more about that tomorrow (last day of school~~!!), but you know I can barely survive if I don't write a post, haha, so here is a snippet of our conversation during the drive to the theatre. XD

Sarah: "Some guy I've only talked to once* added me on Facebook."
Brother: "Yeah, I hate that. Some people think Facebook is like Pokémon; you gotta catch 'em all."

And then later, as the previews were rolling (no PotC3 what the heck), he admitted to sometimes imagining how terribly awesome a live action Pokémon movie would be. XD XD XD XD Oh man, now they HAVE to make that!! I mean, they did live action Sailormoon, right? Pokémon is practically the next step!! XD XD Hahaha, sometimes I wonder what a live action Escaflowne would look like. Really I only even thought of the idea because of the trailer for X-Men 3, when that dude with the wings** came on and I was like "ZOMG IT'S VAN!!" and then was severely disappointed. But I don't even know. All this time and I still find it impossible to even imagine a live action Escaflowne. I have no idea where you would start ... (But if someone ever made it I would so totally watch it.)

Disney Princess stuff XD; )

THIS ENTRY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SHORT ONE WHAT IS GOING ON XD

Oh, and new icons, yay! XD;

* I actually have no issue with this guy adding me, especially as I wrote on his wall and only hours later he wrote back, and his comment was longer than mine which never ever happens, you may have noticed. XD But I'm a little miffed that one of my elementary school classmates added me and has yet to reply to the message I sent him. I CAN TELL YOU'VE BEEN ONLINE, YOU PUNK, I CAN SEE YOUR UPDATES!!! :P

** I know his name but I like to say things like this just to bother people. :D Star Wars is easiest because people always talk about it. "What??" I ask, shocked. "Obi-Wan dies???" And then people get all angsty about it, oh gosh, it amuses me so. XD

1) Today I was sitting at my mother's computer when my father bounded in, carrying a blow-up airplane that I guess he got on his last trip to Germany and making appropriate airplane noises. He then went on to explain to me his plans to hang it from the ceiling of his den at such an angle that it would look like it was crashing. And people wonder why I don't read the news articles this man writes? XD El oh el!

Fangirl alert! Full House and Escaflowne and H!P. :) )

Man, my brother has been totally nice to me today. It makes me not want to leave, hahaha. XD His semester has switched over and so I've been helping him with his Spanish homework the past couple of days. I'm glad to see I can still do it! :) I took two third-year Spanish lit. classes last year (which means I've read part of Don Quixote in the original, this is my only accomplishment in life hehe), but I haven't taken any this year. I do quite like Spanish, it's just that when I let UVic know I got a 4 on the AP exam, it messed everything up ... But this helping my brother with his homework makes me want to read my Harry Potter y el Prisionero de Azkaban again, hehehe. XD Gosh, HP in Spanish is so much better than in the original, I can't even explain it. I think it's just because it makes it seem more exotic, but not enough that I can no longer understand it. And I like the deeper voices of the Spanish dub. <3 And it just really fascinated me the first time I watched it in Spanish dub, which is probably also part of it, haha. Haha, man, now I really want to watch PoA in Spanish again, but I can't, I should really go to bed soon, hehehe. XD;

When I was in middle school, one of my friends told me I talk about my brother an awful amount. Haha, do I? I don't feel like I do ... XD;;;

He keeps getting "muy" and "mucho" confused, like a lot of Spanish learners seem to do. Which is something I've never really understood, it's not like "por" and "para" where they translate into the same English word ... but okay, haha.

I feel like I should make this a fantastic entry because it's my last before Disneyland. ^^; But as you can see it's not going so well! XD So I am going to leave you with some unfinished rambling about Escaflowne AMVs. XD I wrote this in the wee hours of Christmas morning but apparently after the holiday I completely forgot about it, only to rediscover it today when I was pretending to write my kyogen essay. XD And I never even wrote about the "Because of You" video I was going to write about! hahaha. XD

My pendant is a perpetual motion machine! )

And with that, I shall see you all next Sunday! Have an awesome week! XD XD XD XD
arisha: (merle)
[livejournal.com profile] aurora_lime's latest entry mentions my recent lack of updateage which made me feel like I should post. XD And so I shall!

Over the weekend, as well you all know, I went to Vancouver with [livejournal.com profile] the_wykydtron and betaraider in order to visit [livejournal.com profile] athena_crikey. I really enjoyed the trip but I don't actually have a lot to say about it. X) My favourite part was probably watching random anime and random anime music videos and also Advent Children (soooooo prettyyyyyy *_* ) with five other people, and all but one of us were sitting squished on the bed. XD Lucky for us, betaraider falls asleep early, so we were able to spread out after she agreed to fall asleep on the floor. Ha! Ha! Ha! We're the worst friends ever. XD XD XD XD XD

Oh, and playing SNES games was pretty awesome awesome awesome, too. XD Athena, have you gotten past the third level yet? Or are you too busy working on FFXII plot?? XD XD Hahaha, I felt kind of bad today, because everyone I saw asked how Vancouver was, and I was like oh yeah, it was awesome, and they were like, what did you do?, and I was like, PLAYED VIDEO GAMES AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. XD XD XD XD XD XD XD

More video games, Trojan War retellings, Escaflowne, and H!P!! )

And now to go work on my JaNo (soon to become my FebNo? ew, I don't like the look of that word), because I spent like all of last night thinking up exciting new scenes for it. XD
arisha: (one jump ahead)
The idea of this post totally amuses me, so like it or not I am doing it. XD You know how sometimes you'll get little pieces of a movie or a TV show stuck in your head, and you cannot for the life of you remember what you know it from, and it drives you all to pieces and when you finally do figure it out it's the most obvious thing ever? Yeah. I find it really interesting, because usually I feel like the scene is going to turn out to be from something new and exciting, but it never is, and so I always end up a little bit disappointed. But here are three pieces of scenes I've had stuck in my head at one point or another. How well do you know how my brain works? Can you figure these out? XD XD

1) [livejournal.com profile] athena_crikey might remember this one, it's from early high school or something, hahaha. One day I had the phrase "You're lying!" stuck in my head, in a really angry man's voice. I knew it was from an important emotional scene, and I knew it was from a relatively recent animated movie, and for the longest time I thought it was Tarzan. But it wasn't, it was ... )

2) This one bothered me for an entire bus ride home even though I kept guessing the movie it was from and then discarding that guess. A scene between two characters, both men, one of them cripplingly old and the other very young. The younger one does something that totally amazes the older one, but the praise he gives is really sort of adorable, like, "That's marvellous! Oh, that's charming!" The older character is sitting in a rocking chair and they are in a little gray room, and it's live action. It was ... )

3) This one bothered me for about twenty minutes last night, but considering how obvious it seems now, I think even twenty minutes is too long. A male character is sitting and looking depressed. A female character walks up behind him and says, "I'm sorry," in a soft, sort of saddened voice. The male character shrugs it off, saying something like "don't worry," even though it's something pretty bad that's happened to him. (The scenario I had come up with was that he had been convinced someone would be somewhere and they had gone back to find that someone only to be disappointed. This made me think it was Mulan, like if Mulan apologized to Shang after they discovered his father had died, but nope.) Then the next scene begins with a loud sound effect. I kept picturing this on an airship and so I kept thinking it had to be Escaflowne, but even though I couldn't decide if this scene was animated or not, I knew it was in English. After I remembered the rest of the male character's line, I realized that it was ... )

Watch this entry get zero comments. XD hahahaha! That's cool; I'm down with that. XD

(When I see this Aladdin icon out of the corner of my eye, I keep thinking it's an icon of Rika in 3nin Matsuri. Hahahaha, as if the reddish parts were the wig? Hahaha, yes.)
arisha: (Default)
I found it!! hahahaha!! Someone made a video combining Kingdom Hearts and Hikaru Utada's "Hotel Lobby" and it made such an impression on me that I mentioned it in a previous entry even though I couldn't find it at the time, haha. Man, I feel like the meanest person in the world when I criticize fan videos. I mean, I like Kingdom Hearts all right, and "Hotel Lobby" is my favourite song off of Exodus, and the progression of clips in the video is actually pretty good, I think ... but the combination kills me! Hahahaha!! Because "Hotel Lobby" is pretty blantantly about prostitution (unless I am having another stupid moment), and so the idea that someone combined it with Kingdom Hearts, ah, it just amuses me so. I mean, the song isn't even in Japanese! There's not even any excuse! XD;;;

But then, I shouldn't be surprised ... you can find Kingdom Hearts videos to practically anything. XD (Including the Escaflowne opening and a cover of the Escaflowne ending! And the fact that someone actually made a cover of "Mystic Eyes" amuses me even more than the "Hotel Lobby" thing does, hahaha, excellent. XD )

I am still annoyed that I never got that FMV of Riku that all these videos use, that one where he's got the blindfold on and is hardcore fighting all those Heartless. But I didn't finish the game 100%, so I suspect that's why I never saw it. I don't actually care enough to investigate further into the matter ... hahaha ... XD
arisha: (rika ishikawa wins at life XD)
I seem to have immersed myself in fandom-y goodness this winter break. Which I do enjoy, but at the same time it does have a tendency to throw me off-balance and make me all OCD and frustrated with regards to my future. (Besides the montage, the part of Treasure Planet that hit me the most when I first watched it on DVD was when Jim's mother tells him to think of his future and he says, "What future?" I may not be on my way to juvenile hall, but still I feel like that sometimes, too.) So perhaps for this entry I shall talk about things that neither H!P nor fictional. XD;

Well, allow me one thing. ^^; watching the 'Treasure Planet' audio commentary + writing )

being productive )

watching anime )

cutting up T-shirts )

writing a novel )

Anyway. I had no intention of making this entry so long, but at least I only wasted an hour writing it. My today was not so proudly productive (besides the beating of KH2, if that counts, hahahaha!!), but that's okay, I guess I can live with it. ;) Now I shall leave you with a link to my current favourite H!P performance: Morning Musume's "Yah! Ai Shitai!" from their fall 2006 concert. being a fangirl )

Ahaha, sorry that my plan for this entry failed and I still ended up talking about H!P and fiction. XD!!!

I am sad that none of my friends have posted their Christmas junk lists, haha, it makes me feel like such a material girl that every year I post about what I got. But I like to look back at the different years and see these lists. Perhaps this is a trait I unknowingly inherited from my grandmother; when we were cleaning out her part of the house, my mother found a list she'd written of the gifts we gave her last year. But somehow it seems weirder to write it out for yourself than to write it on your LiveJournal ... well I guess it really isn't. Anyway.

Cut cut cut. )

Haha, all right, I guess that's done with. XD Now I shall return to my PotC game. At the moment I am rescuing Will from the silver mine I got him sent to. Jack is a man of CRAZY MORALS!!!!
