So I am very pleased and a little embarrassed to report that all the negative feelings I've had towards Morning Musume recently evaporated pretty much as soon as they stepped onstage today. lol why do I even bother whining about the changes in this group when clearly I am destined to be a fan forever. xD Today they performed in Morioka, a mere hour by local train from my town! And I didn't realize this while looking at the map yesterday, but the concert hall they performed in is right across the street from Aiina, a very nice building with a stupid pun for a name, but more importantly it is where we had our mid-year conference! I spent so many years pining to go to a MoMusu concert that to think that today I saw one an hour from my house across the street from a building where I gave a presentation is MIND-BLOWINGLY AWESOME.
Some more quick and random thoughts:
· When I did my less than stellar recap of the Sendai Dream Morning Musume concert, I forgot to mention how I much I loved their opening VTR!! The music was an instrumental of "Sexy Boy ~Soyokaze ni Yorisotte~" and it had a space sort of theme that included shots from one of the moon landings, and as VTRs go it was seriously awesome. Especially because I've always thought that the "Sexy Boy" video should have been set in space. But not in a lazy way like "Ryuusei Boy." More awesome than that.
Anyway, the reason I was reminded of that is because this concert's VTR uses the instrumental part of "Kanashiki Koi no Melody," and it's AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGG. I rarely listen to B-sides so I actually didn't realize that was a MoMusu song ...... and then I was kind of disappointed in it when they performed it. :/ Well it's still better than its A-side hur hur, but not as good as I had imagined it being based on that seriously awesome instrumentation.
· At this point I am kind of terrible at telling Ayumi and Masaki apart, but during their MC one of them got so excited that she hit herself in the mouth with her own microphone. Like, obviously enough that it got an audience reaction. I feel bad laughing but it was cute. xD
· I really liked Aika when she first joined, and then that like turned to indifference as she kind of didn't really do anything? The H!P concert I saw in January didn't help, because she was all "My foot's still busted so I'm going to act as MC today!" except that ... that concert already had two MCs? So it was really superfluous. Well she still isn't dancing very much but she still managed to be pretty awesome in this concert. She interacted with the audience way more than I've seen at any of the H!P concerts I've been to, even including the AMAZING moment in the Dream Morning Musume concert when the girls pointed out that there was a baby in the audience dressed in a Santa Claus outfit (it was like the week before Christmas) and Yossie called out "SANTA-SAAAAAAAAAN!!!" just like she does in "Pittari Shitai Xmas." xD Well today Aika had a MC with two of the 9th gen members and two of the 10th gen members and she was trying to find out who could produce the best reaction to having their love confession rejected (ugh I kinda hate these games but whatever), so she was playing the role of the guy rejecting them. Near the end, someone in the audience started shouting really loudly and Aika was like, "What's that? 'Cute'? Huh? You want me to do it too?" hahahaha oh Aika, that is exactly the same level of comprehension I have to deal with every day. xD Eventually one of the younger girls figured out what he was trying to say, which was that he thought Aika should apologize for her cruel rejection. And she did! And then fell over laughing. xD Aaahaha it was kind of bizarre but kind of fantastic.
AND THEN at the very end of the concert when everyone was giving their thank you speeches, Aika was all "There are so many girls in the audience today! LET ME HEAR YOU!!!" and all the girls screamed and that was awesome too :D :D :D I gotta say, every time I go to a H!P concert there are more women in the audience than the previous time. Today like half of the section I was sitting in was women. I APPROVE.
Also, Aika was dressed pretty much like a pirate at one point, so, you know. That's awesome.
· According to Risa, it had been a year since MoMusu had been to Morioka; apparently they were going to come in April of last year but had to cancel because of the disaster. I gotta admit, I was shocked to hear that they had been to Morioka before! I wonder if they have ever gone farther north than that. Well I can see them maybe performing in Sapporo during the Golden Age. Anyway, I definitely hope that they return to Morioka again, but today's concert was not sold out at all (the first level was full but the second level was maybe only half full and the third was very sparsely populated) which makes me worry that they won't. :( :( :(
· SO MANY GREEN GLOW STICKS TODAY awwwwwww Risa, don't gooooo ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; The guys in the first level of seats also seemed to be shouting "RISA SAIKOU!" ("Risa's the best!") as I left. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Risa, don't gooooooooooo :''''(
· I was reading a forum yesterday where someone pointed out that there's no sense being annoyed with how quickly the 10th generation was added because the 6th generation was added quickly too and even though some people didn't like that or them at first, they are now beloved. I actually hadn't thought of it quite in those terms before. It's true that after the 6th generation was added my interest in MoMusu dipped a bit (although this also had to do with the MoMusu forum I frequented closing around that same time) and now Reina is one of my favourite people in all of H!P history, soooooooo I guess I should give the newer girls a chance. Well I've decided I like Haruka. And of course Riho is amazing. Uhhhh so that's something, I guess? BUT THEY'RE SERIOUSLY ALL SO YOUNG. I keep feeling like I should not be fangirling people who are the same age or younger than the kids I am teaching. And it doesn't help that in one of the songs today two of the 10th generation girls came out wearing those elementary schooler backpacks!!!!!
· This is also hugely whiny but I didn't like that 10th generation got to sing "Sukina Senpai." I mean, yeah it was probably written with the idea of future generations singing it in mind, but to me it's 100% a 5th generation song and hearing it makes me think of Mako and Konno singing it (and bawling) at their graduation and I don't want anyone else to sing itttttttttttt sorry I'm a crazy fangirl. :(
· "Renai Hunter" is seriously awesome and I am stoked that Risa gets such a strong last single, but there is one move in the dance where they stand with their legs apart and then, uhhhh, run in place? I really can't describe it but I'm pretty sure no one could make it look attractive and I have no idea why it's in there. D:
· Reina and Sayumi had an MC together during which they talked so fast that I couldn't understand what they were saying. :( BACK TO THE BOOKS, I GUESS
· I swear every new version of "Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari" is part of a contest Tsunku holds with himself to see how many syllables he can fit into each line. I like that song but rrrrrrrgh
· Sayumi and Mizuki singing "Suki da na Kimi ga" felt to me like the rebirth of Sayupink and Kohapink and I APPROVE. Because I mean that was the BEST UNIT EVER and I am only kind of joking because "Rainbow Pink" was FANTASTIC.
· To be totally honest I hadn't listened to all of 12, Smart before going to this concert and I was afraid the abundance of new-to-me songs would be boring. I actually really enjoyed them! "OK YEAH!" was the only one I liked enough to look up immediately after getting home (actually I heard that for the first time in the H!P concert I went to in January and forgot to look it up after whoops), but even so they're mostly a fun bunch of songs and I approve.
· lol it was kinda weird being (as far as I could tell) the only foreigner in the concert hall during "HOW DO YOU LIKE JAPAN?," in which the chorus is all "People of the world, how do you like Japan?" I LIKE IT JUST FINE THANK YOU AND YOU?
· "TOP" is awesome but I was a little disappointed that it got inserted into the medley minus the creepy beginning part with the weird voices introducing the members.
· This was perhaps my favourite H!P concert set yet, perhaps just because in the background there were very pretty points of light. I am a sucker for pretty lighting, to which I owe probably a full half of my Disney parks obsession hahahahar
· Oh by the way, it took me way too long to realize this but this was actually the first Morning Musume concert I've been to! The previous times I've seen them have been in H!P concerts. Seeing MoMusu alone was WAYYYYY BETTER. I didn't have to wait through groups I don't like as much in order to hear them sing two songs and then go offstage again, haha. That by itself was awesome. :)
I FEEL LIKE I AM FORGETTING TO MENTION SOMETHING I REALLY WANTED TO MENTION
BUT CLEARLY THIS IS ALREADY WAY TOO MUCH FOR ANYONE TO READ ABOUT MORNING MUSUME
I'm seeing them again in Sendai tomorrow :D :D :D
