arishaSo as I have talked about before, Aura's House recently hosted a fundraiser for my sponsored child John, who is seven and lives in the Philippines. They helped me raise enough money to provide him and his family with both a Special Gift and an Income Generating Project. Today I received (via e-mail!) the photos as well as a thank you letter from John. First up, the Special Gift! :)
The family received a bunch of different kinds of food. That blue box of snacks with the panda on it is totally the same brand as a box of cookies I once bought when I was in Lima! According to my two seconds of Googling, it is Hello Panda and it is actually a Japanese brand.
A big bag of rice seems to be a common purchase for families in the Philippines, but this is the first time one has shown up in any of my photos!
John also received several items of clothing ...
... and a lot of footwear! I just now noticed that the sneakers are Ben 10 sneakers. I know nothing about Ben 10 except that apparently he has a magic watch or something, because when I was in the daycare in Peru I would sometimes let the kids play with my watch, and they would put it on their wrist, punch their fist into the air and shout, "Ben Diez!" xD
And one of the pairs of flip-flops appears to be NBA-themed!
It would seem that I have more than one sponsored child who likes Spongebob. :D
Next are the photos from the IGP. Previously, John's mother was taking care of her father, for which her siblings paid her just under fifty dollars a month. In one of his letters, John told me that his grandfather passed away earlier this year; I'm not sure what the family has been doing for income since then. Hopefully this IGP, a hog raising project, will provide them with a new way to earn money.
I don't know where these two photos were taken but I think perhaps a warehouse? We provided the family with enough money for about fourteen bags of feed, which will hopefully get them off to a good start.
Also, John is rocking that Engrish shirt. :D
And this is John with the three piglets they purchased. We didn't have to provide funds to build a pigpen because John's grandfather already had this one.
The thank you letter that John wrote is pretty awesome. :) It begins: When my mom was informed that you had again given me an assistance my mother and I jumped because of happiness, we never expected it. He then lists what was purchased and says it really is a great help for the whole family. He continues: Thank you is not enough to express my gratitude, so I will promise to study harder, and be good always. Aaaugh what a sweet kid! <3

Is this guy a character from something? If anyone knows who it is, let me know! xD
It was awesome to receive these photos today, and I really hope the project helps the family a lot. :)
Aaaaand now of course I am going to remind you that Aura's House is still raising funds for my sponsored child Maria! Check it out if you would like to help us buy her family a bed and a table. And for any of you who might feel obliged to buy me a Christmas present, yes of course you can do this instead. ;)
