NBC Confuses Terry Fox for Michael J. Fox

WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

I have no idea how well known Terry Fox is outside of Canada (feel free to educate me on this), but holy man. Seriously, my feeling watching this clip is OH NO YOU DID NOT JUST

Especially because, according to Wikipedia, At the 2010 Winter Olympics, a Terry Fox Award will be awarded to an Olympic athlete who embodies Fox's characteristics of determination and humility in the face of adversity. El. Oh. El.

I enjoy how my patriotic pride comes out in small and angry bursts, but SERIOUSLY.

HE IS THE SECOND GREATEST CANADIAN.

haha this line kind of surprised me, just because all my rage is definitely in support of Terry Fox. Michael J. Fox is awesome, but he is no second greatest Canadian!

Terry Fox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Fox) set out to run across Canada in order to raise money for cancer research. He started on this run after he had already lost one of his legs to the disease. He was too sick to finish the run and passed away a year later, but the Terry Fox Run (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Fox_Run) is still held every year (and not just in Canada!) to continue raising money.

I'm outraged for Terry Fox, naturally. Also, I don't know who Michael J. Fox is, other than that he's on TV somehow.

The annual speech contest in KK had a Terry Fox speech as one of its three set options last year; I helped edit it. It had to be stupidly short, though, so I basically had to cut everything out. ;_;

PS: I was watching some event through streaming yesterday, and the announcer said Soviet rather than Russian. I mean, he corrected himself, but... x.x

Yeah, now that you mention it I remember your students had that speech. I also recall once hearing about somewhere in China that does the Terry Fox Run every year.

I have to admit, I had never heard of Terry Fox until I got to Canada. It's possible that people in the States who were cognizant at the time might know who he was, but people our age? I sincerely doubt it. (I was completely lost the first time the Terry Fox Run came up. Sorry. >.>)

I am now in NYC, though I had lived in Toronto for 10 years before moving here. I honestly don't think people here know who Terry Fox is at all (and I had no idea who he was before I moved to Canada from Russia either). This is a massive fail. Nice research, NBC. I can see them telling some intern: 'dude, find us some info on Terry Fox, preferably with some photos, and quick'. The guy goes on the internet, where it all mixes up in his head and he goes 'well, here's Michael J. Fox, that rings a bell, and he has some kind of horrible disease too, must be him.' :D
