So, uh. If you watched the Oscars, you already know that everyone I was rooting for lost. Except Ratatouille. Which I don't think deserved an Oscar. And augh, I hate the thought of these subpar films getting Oscars just because of the existence of the Best Animated Picture category. I'm being harsh right now because I'm frustrated with the whole thing but do you see what I mean? If Ratatouille had been live action it certainly wouldn't have won Best Picture. The only reason it got an Oscar was because it was animated and a more respectable flick than Surf's Up. Because honestly.
I dunno, I dunno ... I just want animated movies to be awesome again. :(
Okay what else.
- Jon Stewart! And Steve Carell! They get hearts: <333 My brother wandered in at one point and mentioned how it would be awesome to get some Stephen Colbert action there as well. To which my answer is: YES. Oh gosh, can you imagine if Jon and Stephen co-hosted the Oscars next year? It would be just the most beautiful thing. :')
- Whoever "woohoo"ed at Jon's mention of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, hahaha, that was amazing. xDD
- Jon's attempt at singing "Happy Working Song" OWNS MY SOUL. hahahaha amazing. <33 xD
- I am really depressed to admit that of the three Enchanted song performances, "So Close" was my favourite. WHAT THAT SONG IS SO GENERIC. "Happy Working Song" was okay but Amy doesn't have a strong enough voice for live performances, it seems, and what was up with having her sing that while standing all alone? I was really excited for "That's How You Know," especially with Miley Cyrus announcing it (shut up I love her) and that woman whose name I should really know singing it, but wow. I didn't think you could butcher that song, but wow. And I can't even really pinpoint what went wrong with it. Just ... there was no energy. It was not adorable. The singing was too fancy and the set not quite good enough. My mom, listening from the kitchen, said she thought the song was horrid. I'm just like DARNIT, I did not want that to be my mother's introduction to the wonderfulness of Enchanted. ;_;
Maybe "That's How You Know" is doomed to be like Berryz Koubou's "Special Generation" in that it is wonderful recorded but absolutely falls apart when performed live. :(
- Pirates didn't win for effects. UHM. I admit I haven't seen The Golden Compass but from what I have seen of it, the effects were not all that impressive. I mean maybe it's not fair of me to say that but whatever. I just feel like there are SO MANY effects in Pirates, and they all look so. good. I'm confused! I mean, the maelstrom scene? It's like half an hour of straight special effects and it all looks so amazing and-- and-- guh???
That really was the biggest disappointment for me. :( Alan's comments about a split vote had sorta kinda prepared me for an Enchanted loss but I had truly expected Pirates to win. And then oh gosh, when the Compass guy quoted Walt Disney in his acceptance speech? Uhmmmmmmm.
I think I get more worked up about these things than the people involved with these movies do. :p
- Oh I love the clip they chose to represent Amadeus when they were going through all of the past winners. Wolfie opening the door and freaking out 'cause it's the Man in Black, hahaha. I loooove that scene so I was really happy that's the one they chose. <3 On a previous Oscar night I remember they showed a clip of Salieri realizing he's just been watching Mozart crawling around on the floor ... I think tonight's clip is the superior one. xDD;
~
Right at this moment especially I feel like I have such a love-hate relationship with the Academy Awards. Yes I like movies and yes I have a lot of respect for a bunch of people involved in movies and yeah it's kinda cool to see them all interacting together (although also kinda boring). And of course, my very favourite animated movie and my very favourite live action movie are both the recipient of Academy Awards - Aladdin got two music-related awards and Amadeus got like seven awards, including Best Actor and Best Picture. It makes me really happy that my favourite movies were so recognized and in a way it makes me kinda proud, and even maybe a little justified in liking them so much. But at the same time I'm definitely one of those people who finds the Oscars to be a waste of time and money and energy. It is kind of hard to take three-plus hours of rich(ish) people telling each other how wonderful they are while the whole time you're thinking, Movies are great and all, but don't flatter yourself. And it seems that with few exceptions, the movies given the most important awards are all serious and depressing and not ones I'd ever want to see. Like, for example, No Country For Old Men. :P
haha gosh, watching this I was totally wondering how many of these people go and sit in theatres where their movies are playing. How many of them are able to see their movies from the average moviegoer's perspective? From the box office girl's perspective? For example, I wonder how many of The Bourne Ultimatum's creators know about all the refunds that had to be given because their film caused audience members to get motion sick and throw up. xD (I'm sure Cloverfield's creators know, hahaha.) And I wonder what the creators of Juno would have to say if I were able to tell them about the lecture a guest gave me about the dangers of teen pregnancy after I told her I'd heard Juno was a pretty good movie.
MAN I WISH I WAS MAKING THAT UP. D: I was actually really annoyed with her. I hate when people ask my opinion on our movies and then are rude to me when they don't like my response. Look, if you want, I could be like one of my managers and tell you to make up your own mind! This particular lady was like the first guest of my shift and when I suggested Juno at first she said she wasn't going to see it because it was about pregnancy out of wedlock, and I was like uh okay, and then she was going on about how teenagers shouldn't get pregnant because "they haven't lived" and then she moved on to how movies glamourize teen pregnancy. And I'm like uh, I'm pretty sure movies glamourize all pregnancy. hahaha well maybe I was giving bad service at this point because she was trying to lecture me and I was trying to brush her off haha. I was just like "Uh-huh, okay, well I haven't seen it so I don't know" the whole time. :PP Then afterwards I was thinking, maybe she was lecturing me because she thought I was a teenager heading towards a teen pregnancy, and she was trying to warn me away from it? Man, I'm glad that apparently I look like I'm sixteen, but at the same time I'm not glad for it if it results in ridiculous things like this.
GOSH THIS HAPPENED THREE WEEKS AGO AND I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT
I DON'T GET PAID ENOUGH TO BE LECTURED ABOUT TEEN PREGNANCY BY SOME RANDOM STRANGER >:[
(What I love most about this is that since, SO many seniors have gone to see Juno. And I know this doesn't always hold true, but stereotypically, seniors are supposed to be more conservative than younger generations, right? So this really cracks me up. It's like when my grandma thought that Stephen Harper was too conservative and I laughed and laughed ... xDD; )
Man I hate when guests try to act like they know me. :/ I would throw in a "I'M PAID TO BE NICE TO YOU" here but I'm always too nice to invading people whether I'm getting paid for it or not. >:(
Well that was a lovely little work rant!! haha. x);
In other real life news, I'm not all that eager to return to school, and what little eagerness I have is dampened by the fact that in my Linguistics class we're doing group projects, and one of my group members is killing me. I am definitely one of those people who doesn't enjoy doing group projects. I would SO much rather work on my own; I am too controlling and too much of a procrastinator, and I also feel bad because this particular project is one I really don't have a lot of attachment to, so while my group members are all "HAY LET'S MEET UP OKAY" I'm just like uh, no thx, I'll just do my part the night before. hahaha I'M A HORRIBLE GROUP MEMBER IT'S AWESOME. But I also made the mistake of giving one of my group members my phone number, and oh my god, I should have lied a thousand lies before giving it to her. You guys know of my irrational hatred of the telephone, I'm sure. I absolutely hate talking on the phone unless it's with someone I know very well. Basically the only people I enjoy phoning are my parents and four of my closest friends. Everyone else, please just e-mail me sorta thing. :/ So my group member phones me today and is all "Let's meet up tomorrow because I'm worried about the project" and instead of saying WHAT ON EARTH COULD YOU POSSIBLY BE WORRIED ABOUT THE PROJECT ISN'T DUE FOR ANOTHER WHOLE MONTH, I agreed, because I am a pushover. Gosh I have absolutely zero idea what we are going to talk about. There is nothing to talk about. I have no desire to stay after school for any longer than I have to but now I have to and it makes me even more frustrated with everything right now.
I AM FRUSTRATED WITH EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW
Can I just graduate, like, tomorrow? KAY THANKS.
~
And if there's anyone out there still interested in playing this game, here are three more movies for you to guess:
16. "If you don't tell me, and the Nothing keeps coming, you'll die, too! Both of you!"
17. "I gotta start packing, Your Highness!"
18. "I was about to be hanged. It seemed like a good idea at the time."
hahaha man I seem to pick really violent quotes. xD;
