My Reading Break so far has been filled with emotional ups and downs and I am kinda not digging it. I am still far from done my Clean Sweeping; I don't think I'm going to achieve what I had hoped to achieve this break, but I'm still hoping that all this work will pay off somehow. So long as I'm more organized next week than I was last week, right? And even if I'm not, it has been lovely having these three days where I have been able to enter my bedroom and see absolutely nothing cluttering the floor. x)
Gone With the Wind was on TCM today, as part of their countdown to the Oscars. What better way to distract myself from the stress I have been creating for myself than with a four-hour movie that I quite like but have only seen once before? xD And I definitely enjoyed it more this time than the last time I watched it. I want to reread the book now. :d I read it over spring break in grade eleven and the way I spent all night every night reading it, you'd think it was Harry Potter. xDD lawl.
Anyway my favourite thing about Gone With the Wind is that it's all WAR!! and CHARGED POLITICAL ISSUES!!! but I definitely love it just for Rhett/Scarlett. xDDDD Man I love Rhett! If he were a real person I don't think I would but as a fictional character he is fantastic. Before I read the book, basically all I knew about the story before I read it was that there was this girl named Scarlett who made a dress out of curtains (lol Carol Burnett) and this dude named Rhett who had a famous saying. And I just figured they would be the two main characters and have an equal number of scenes. I was so surprised to find that Rhett comes and goes as he pleases and there are so many long stretches where he isn't even mentioned at all. So that's kind of sad because he's so awesome but also kind of good because every time he reappears I get all excited. xDD;;
Also movie!Ashley is definitely not hot enough, amirite? D: He has to be hot to make up for how much of a dork he is!! I don't get why Scarlett likes him so much. :/// RHETT IS SO MUCH MOR AWSM hahaha how awful is it of me that one of my favourite scenes is the one where Rhett kinda sorta causes Scarlett to fall down the stairs? (I find it interesting that in the book he says "Maybe you'll have a miscarriage" and in the movie he says "Maybe you'll have an accident." It makes me wonder if they weren't allowed to say "miscarriage"?)
I think it was
athena_crikey who watched the movie and then reported back to me that she found Rhett and Scarlett to both be horrible, horrible people. xDD hahaha but that's what makes them so awesome!! xD
I still don't know what to think of the ending, though. Do Scarlett and Rhett ever get back together? On the one hand I say yes, because they've always split up before and always ended up back together somehow. But on the other hand I say no, because it really seems like Rhett is done with her, and who can blame him, after the TRAGEDY! TRAGEDY! TRAGEDY! that makes up the last half hour of the film. But at the same time I don't know. Grr what a place to end the story. x))
And now for some crazy quotes from my high school classmates, which I found scribbled on pages of notes that I took in Math 9:
(On signing yearbooks) "I'm writing all this inspirational stuff: 'the sky's the limit,' 'reach for the sky,' 'stretch your being outside your body' ... and all I get is 'Hey Courtney, what's up?'"
"We'll come up with codenames to use to cheat on the test! Alpha, this is Pi! Come in, Polynomials! My God, they've got Polynomials!"
"Actually, I'm Trinomials."
"And God is good. God is great."
"This is a school. We don't talk about God here."
"I'm going to look in the phone book tonight and if I find anyone named 'Polynomial,' they're dead. ... Of course, now that I've said that and won't do it, some guy named Polynomial'll die tonight and you'll blame it on me."
(Going over practice test answers in preparation for an upcoming test) "What was that last one? D? I'm keeping a tally."
(Announcement on the PA) "It's '80s Day on C-------- Radio. Drop by the student lounge to hear your favourite hits from this decade that most of us at C-------- don't remember."
"I'm sorry, I don't know how to spell. ... That."
(A wandering teacher found a swimsuit calendar in the recycling bin and started flipping through it)
Student: "Why are you doing that?"
Teacher: "I just want to know what day it is."
"I try to get in to the movies as a child. They say, 'When's your birthday?' I say, 'Shoot, I dunno, I'm sorry. 1990?'"
(On being hungry) "I feel like there's a poor man in my stomach."
End of LJ entry! Now I return to being emotionally up and down. D:

Date: 2008-02-19 10:58 pm (UTC)Re: Gone with the Wind: I haven't ever really watched it myself, but my sister loves it and watched it when she had her teeth out. My impression: Scarlett is an extremely terrible person. Why is this movie a classic? Stupid South.
I like your quotes. Are they all from one day? Because that would have been an exciting day, I think...

Date: 2008-02-19 11:34 pm (UTC)hahaha I actually kinda feel like Gone With the Wind is one of the few classics where I can see why it's a classic. BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME. xDDD
I admit the quotes are not all from one day. And I actually snuck a couple from another class in there. hahaha I fail. xD
Man I realized last night after posting it that the line about 1990 doesn't work so well now that people born in 1990 are seventeen or EIGHTEEN. O_O I feel old now. :/
... hahaha I feel so old but everyone who meets me thinks I'm still in high school. x) The number of times last June I got asked how my exams were going was pretty ridiculous. "Uh, they're going fine ... two months ago ... ?"

Date: 2008-02-21 01:48 am (UTC)IT IS NOT. HORRIBLE PEOPLE AND DEAD CHILDREN EVERYWHERE. :p
I realized one day a few weeks ago that it has been Eight Years since I last took Chemistry (due to the American school system where the sciences are split by subject even in 9th grade). I was Shocked.

Date: 2008-02-20 01:33 am (UTC)I rediscovered, for example, the birthday card you made me in grade twelve I guess it would've been? With Arada and Gerai on the front and Rykeir and Venetia inside. OH that remains my favourite birthday card ever. xDDD Now that I have remembered its existence, sadly the musical PotC card has been knocked down to second place. hahaha!! xD
