arishaI have been very good at staying productive these past two or three weeks, and today especially -- instead of coming home and doing nothing for my six-hour break between classes, I stayed on campus and did my PACI reading and wrote a Mixi entry and then two scenes for my novel and I also went for a couple little walks. :) So tonight I let myself slack off and watch some piratey goodness. XD XD XD PotC2 with Spanish subtitles, awesome! I didn't take a Spanish class this school year because when I was making my schedule I was really only focusing on classes that I need to fulfill my Japanese Language and Literature requirements ... but I do kind of miss having a Spanish class. :( Augh, let's not go into all the messy detail of my university Spanish classes, let's just talk about piratas borrachos. XD

Elizabeth: "Todo lo que me dijiste, cada palabra, era mentira."
Jack: "Casi todo. Tenía prisa, querida."
"Tenía prisa, querida" ("I was in a hurry, dear") is the subtitle given for "Time and tide, love." Is that what "time and tide" is supposed to mean? Am I just dumb? Because I had always thought that Jack says "time and tide" to mean more like, "yeah I lied to you, but it's in the past now, so no big deal." Help me out here, guys, which is it? XD;;
Man, I hate when things like this reveal to everyone just how little English I actually understand, haha. Like what I said about one of the PotC2 commercials, here, let me dig it out for you ...
And another thing about the commercials I've seen recently, I like the part where Elizabeth and Jack meet and Jack's all, "Elizabeth!" and then he turns to the guy behind him (probably someone we know but I always watch these things at like two in the morning, so) and is all, "Hide the rum." That one line gives me great faith in the movie, hahaha, because dude, it's so Jack. He does the same thing in the first movie, like where he tells Elizabeth it never would have worked between them. I have no idea what you would call this but I like the idea that it is fake projecting, hahahaha. Like, in the first movie, everyone KNOWS that Elizabeth is not interested in Jack, it's not even a question, but then he's all, "Oh, sorry honey" and whatever, and it's humourous. And now he's all "OMG HIDE THE RUM SHE'S A TOTAL DRUNK" when to everyone else ever it's so obvious she thinks that rum is a foul drink, hahahaha. Well I think it's pretty clear that Jack realizes these things too and is just trying to make with the funny, because he is Captain Jack Sparrow and he is awesome.

Norrington: "Discúlpame mientras mato al hombre que me arronió la vida."
Will: "Adelante."
The only reason I care at all that they translated Will's "Be my guest" as "Adelante" is because that's the title of a story I wrote in grade twelve that I'll never be able to escape. XD No sooner had I decided that story was dead to me than my Writing 12 teacher called me up and said, "We're putting together a proper anthology, and we want one of your stories to be in it, what was that one called?" She really didn't have to tell me what story they wanted to use. She didn't even have to tell me if it was a story or a poem. I knew which one they wanted. I always know. XD;

Jack: "¿Dónde está el dichoso órgano?"
"Where is the damned organ"? Really? Spanish has no onomatopoeia similar to "thump thump"? (And holy man, can you believe I spelled "onomatopoeia" right on the first try? And I'm not even an English major! Wow!!)

This is perhaps a silly thing to admit, but. One of the most gratifying things for me is when I am watching something in a language I am studying, and I am able to anticipate what is going to be said. I do this all the time in French and sometimes in Japanese but I can't think of good examples right now. I definitely do it in English, and a good chunk of the time when I do it I'm able to correctly predict what will be said, although I think that has less to do with being psychic and more with being a native English speaker. Haha, oh well. But anyway, so I was watching PotC2 with the Spanish subtitles, and it got to the part where Elizabeth was about to suffer from a fake fainting spell, and I thought, "El calor." And then the subtitle was "El calor." And this makes me so happy it is ridiculous. XD

On Sunday,the_wykydtron mentioned one part of Hunchback of Notre Dame that she once watched over and over, and when I mocked her she responded with "What, like you don't have any scenes you watch over." To which I responded with "For goodness' sake, Harry, get up!!," because that was the first scene that came to mind that I have indeed watched over and over. XD But how could I have forgotten? Every time I watch PotC2 I have to watch the ending as many more times as I think I can get away with before a family member comes in and breaks my DVD. XD As soon as Tia Dalma starts her "at world's end" speech, I am unable to stop smiling. Hahaha, and the first time I saw this scene, I hated it so much!! XD "Now tell me ... what's become of my ship?" Hahaha, oh Barbossa, you wacky dead dude, you. XD XD XD I can't even listen to the score without getting all excited, haha, it's ridiculous. XD

My mom came in during my favourite scene and after Davy Jones asked, "What is your purpose here?," she echoed, "WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE HERE?" and man, you probably had to be there, but it was hilarious. XD;
And in other news, my brother is taking me to see Meet the Robinsons next week, he totally promised, and he works at the theatre so we'll totally get in for free! I hope he keeps his word for once, I am way too looking forward to this. XD; And I am totally hoping they play the PotC3 trailer in front of it, that would be splendid. XD XD XD XD

Ooh, Meet the Robinsons looks good, but more importantly you'll probably be able to see the POTC 3 trailer on the BIG screen! I would have thought that the movie would have a different name considering we've already had "Meet the parents" and "Meet the Fockers". How many people do we want to meet? XD

I was really confused when I first heard the title Meet the Robinsons, not just because of the Meet the Parents/Fockers thing (I agree with you, the title reminds me of those movies), but because I was like, "Robinsons? You mean, as in the Swiss Family Robinson?" and for months I thought it was a futuristic version of that story. XD But I guess not! Haha.
