victory through air power

1) Today instead of wasting the half-hour I have between the arrival of the bus at UVic and when my class actually starts, I sat down and made myself write. :3 Yay! Progress!! XD!!
2) I signed up for two summer classes, and hopefully I'll keep them this year! :D Two classes from the writing department, so hopefully I don't hate them like I've hated all my other random classes. One is "a survey course of global cinema examining archetypal and mythic structure in classical narrative film writing" and the other is "a lecture course that studies writing for film in the twentieth century. The focus may shift from Canadian film to American to European." Okay, posting these descriptions on LJ is making me really nervous about these classes. I hope I don't hate them~~~~~~~~~~~~ ;_; ;_; ;_;
3) I watched some of my favourite bits of the BBC's Casanova today. (Admittedly, because I was trying to wear out the battery of my DVD player, but never mind that now.) I had totally, completely forgotten how awesome it is.
the_wykydtron will hate me because I skipped over all the scenes with Peter O'Toole, lol lol lol. XD XD XD I think what I love most about this production of Casanova is you can kind of tell that they didn't have the largest budget or anything, all the costumes and all the sets give off a nice air of being fake - but instead of detracting from the movie, I totally feel like it adds to it. The cheapness gives it part of its funky atmosphere. XD But my favourite part has to be all the witty banter. And my goodness, I love the first scenes with Rocco. XD I showed A the DVD case one time when she was over here, and she was totally disgusted by, like, all of it. Haha. I do think that this is one of those movies you have to watch before you can start to understand its appeal. In that respect it's a little like Katamari Damacy. XD XD XD;;
4) Today on The Search for the Next Doll (I wish I had a good excuse for watching this show, but sadly I don't), a girl was eliminated for being too sexy and not sophisticated enough. Judges, have you ever seen a Pussycat Dolls video? Nothing against them or anything, but let's not kid ourselves here.
5) Yesterday I didn't feel great so I slept till five p.m., then read more about Shakespeare, then read reviews on Ultimate Disney until three a.m., then went to bed but didn't fall asleep for hours, haha. And today I felt the least tired I have felt since before Reading Break, which is ridonkulous. Haha. But man, I wish every day was yesterday. It was so nice and calm and not at all stressful at all ... <3
6) My brother's girlfriend added me on Facebook. I like the filling out the "How do you know this person?" form but unfortunately there is no option for "brother's girlfriend." :p
7) I don't really care for the idea of going to school tomorrow. But what else is new? I seriously need to figure out why I am so not a fan of school lately, so I can fix it. Because I still have one whole more year to get through ... aaaaaarrrgh ... ;_; ;_; ;_;
8) I added a PotC3 countdown ticker thing to my profile. XD XD XD XD THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING MEI HOPE IT LASTS
Oh man, on Saturday I watched Hoodwinked! (a movie that was much more awesome than I expected it to be) with its audio commentary, and one of the dudes said, "Strike that. Reverse it." OMG SO MUCH LOVE!
Both That '70s Show and The Daily Show share a recurring phrase: "I SAID GOOD DAY!" And it was killing me trying to figure out where that was from! I had absolutely no idea! But a couple weeks ago, I was reading Wikipedia as is my wont, and I came across a page which explained its origins and I was like YES OF COURSE THAT'S SO TOTALLY AWESOME IN SO MANY WAYS!!!
... I am a totally closeted Willy Wonka fangirl. ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_;
9) Breaking news, zomg: You Can't Travel Back in Time, Scientists Say. Really the only reason I find this of interest is because quite a chunk of my NaNo2004 was dedicated to saying the same thing. XD Various snippets:
This is how my life has been since starting university. Real but very much not real. I ride the bus out and I ride the bus in but it feels like I'm playing a game. I wonder if place is as malleable as time. People believe in time machines. I believe in place machines. I believe we have shaped the world to suit our minds. I may leave and I may come back but I am always here. Everything is an illusion. (When I wrote this bit, it was like my favourite thing I had ever written ever. I came up with it on the bus, actually, and I recited it over and over in my head so I wouldn't forget the wording.)
There are 3x10^9 seconds in a century but it means nothing. Time exists only to explain our bewilderment towards change. A century is a hundred years because to the mind of someone with ten fingers, a hundred is the perfect number. 3x10^9. Mathematically I don't know what that means. As C, I know it is meaningless.
Who created the second? I think, the time of a heartbeat, the interval between raindrops, the silent banging of a drum.
But in reality I am lying on my back in the elevator, pushing buttons with my feet, going up and down as I will. This is the closest I will ever come to a time machine.
I actually really like my NaNo2004. I mean, I don't think I'm deluding myself - there are definitely parts that are sort of pompous and artsy and a little bit ridiculous, but at the same time I sort of feel like it's one of the strongest things I've ever written, even if it's way unfinished and so rough around the edges. It would be cool to finish it someday, but at the same time I wonder if I could ever get back into that mindset that I was in when I poured it out in first year ... probably I could. Probably I'm still in that same mindset every day and I just don't realize it unless I'm writing it down. Probably.
10) Hahaha, I love this song way too much for someone of my delicate sensibilities! XD

(no subject)
Date: 2007-03-14 10:35 am (UTC)opinion poll! which language is easier, spanish or french (i might have to take either one up in june this year and i'm still! perservering with japanese GO ME)?
i hope you don't mind that i added you to facebook so you can fill up that form about me. i would also very much love to see your disneyland photos! i never really was a person for theme parks; i'm scared of rollercoasters, hahaha.
I just wrote you a really nice reply, but as usual, the internets foiled me.
Date: 2007-03-15 01:06 am (UTC)I have a co-worker who's only a year younger than me but is in first year university. Except I always just plain forget how old she is, and then she gets mad at me. :X
Opinion poll, yay! XD Personally, I would say Spanish is easier. You should probably take into account that when I started studying Spanish, I already had years of French, and so was familiar with some of the vocabulary that Spanish and French share. So I did have a bit of an advantage. But other than that, I found Spanish spelling to be a ton easier than French, because there is less to worry about with regards to agreement, apostrophes, accents, and things like that. I also found Spanish pronunciation to be a lot easier, both when speaking and when listening. I remember making a post complaining about how I could understand the Spanish dub of Hunchback of Notre Dame much easier than the French dub, despite the fact that I had been studying French for way longer. :P Also I like Spanish food better than French food, ha! ha! ha! But yeah, in my personal opinion, Spanish is easier. In more official rankings than this, though, I think they usually rank very close together, in terms of how easy they are to learn for English speakers ...
And no, I totally don't mind that you added me to Facebook. :D I feel kind of dumb because I never even thought to look for you on it. I guess I just assumed it was a North American thing, I dunno. :P But yay, I am enjoying looking through your pictures. XD My pictures are all kind of ridiculous, haha, I don't think I even have anything halfway serious posted. Haha. But what is the form of which you speak? I looked around your profile but didn't see anything ... ?
I am glad to hear someone actually wants to see my Disneyland photos, and I won't just be forcing them on people. XD hahaha. XD I've been very slow with writing the next entry, which will have the first pictures, but now I feel encouraged, yay! XD
And regarding roller coasters: I had never even been on any until Disneyland! And I liked all the coasters we went on in Disneyland, but oh man, California Adventure ... that park is way too intense for me. o_o I prefer coasters that don't feel as though they are trying to kick you off the track at each corner. Man, that was frightening. o_o

Date: 2007-03-15 02:22 am (UTC)the form of which i speak in facebook is the umm...friends detail form you were talking about wrt your brother's girlfriend. :0 if you put your disneyland photos up on facebook, no doubt i will be eagerly having a look despite my total fear of rollercoasters and all things high. i love the kid coasters best or things with enough altitude to give me the nerves but you know, not that far off the ground...wow i'm picky. :D:D
