It's hard for me to pinpoint what, exactly, makes Troy seem stupider every time I watch it, but there must be something. And yet I keep watching it. Well, whatever, shut up. There are some lines I really really really like and they will perhaps always be the highlights of the movie (three of my favourites: "You are very young, my love" / "Is this what you left me for?!" / "You are still my enemy tonight"), but I can say the same thing about every movie I find mediocre (there are really only three scenes in Anastasia that I can tolerate, but what good scenes they are). It just frustrates me that the sets are gorgeous and the costumes are great and the weather was perfect (though a little lacking in wind, I do think) and yet the acting and the script are mediocre, sometimes bland. Actually, I do like Hector's "you know nothing about death and you know nothing about love" speech, but Eric Bana's acting is perhaps better suited for a role like the Hulk, sigh. (And Andromache is too freaking skinny, geeze! Eat a lime or something, girl!)

Also it confounds me that the movie practically opens with Achilles and two girls all sleeping in the nude, yet they go to pains to kill any hint that Achilles and Patroclus might be an item of any sort in any way at all ever. Despite the fact that that would have made a much better story. AND I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DIDN'T HAVE ACHILLES GIVE PATROCLUS PERMISSION TO GO FIGHT BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO. MUCH. BETTER. I think I have ranted about this enough before though, a-heh.

I believe this is my ... fifth? viewing of the movie, and up till now I don't believe I noticed that Odysseus appears to realize that Achilles is not Achilles almost right from the beginning of the scene in which Achilles is not Achilles. That's pretty awesome. The whole time he seems very suspicious, but kind of disbelieving, and it's cool and I can't believe I never noticed before, because Odysseus doesn't get that much screentime in any other scene. He is definitely another highlight of the movie. Man, Odysseus. Way to rock. I like that one line of his - "It is no insult to say a dead man ... is dead." XD;

And also whenever I watch this movie I keep thinking that Priam has more than two sons. Like, not thinking, even, more like I am so used to him having more than two sons that it doesn't even register that they changed it. I figure the other sons are all running around in the background somewhere. And then we get to the scene where Priam tells Hector that no man ever had a better son, and I think about what my Japanese exchange student friend said last year, about how that was an insult to Paris and she thought it was funny, and then I think, whataminute, where's everyone else? Shut up, I am the Helenus fan club, all righty?

AND I STILL DO THAT THING WHERE I ASSUME ACHILLES IS DEAD AND WHEN HE JUMPS OUT THE HORSE I AM ALL "WHAT THE FRICK!!!!!" I have mixed feelings about his "Get him out of Troy" line. It just feels too much like an action movie ... I don't know. ;_;

Hahaha, I like when Helen's all "They're burning it to the ground!" and Paris just shakes his head at her. TAKE THAT, WOMAN!! I like how before that they show Andromache and Helen hanging out in the palace. Chelaxin'! Well, not, because the city's burning, but I like to pretend. You may have noticed. I don't know how you can watch this movie if you don't pretend the story's actually going the way you want it to go.

Remind me to tell you my all-important Troy vs. Passion of the Christ theory. Or don't. I imagine I'll get around to it eventually.

Okay let's talk about something else. My brother's girlfriend was drinking water and then she started laughing so hard she started spilling it and she ran to the bathroom to spit out what she had in her mouth but she ended up spilling water all down the hallway and the whole thing was hilarious, but the most hilarious part was that my brother was the one who had to clean it up, sucka!!!!
