So I just got back from my theatre's first showing of Tangled and omg I loved it. There were a couple little things I could've done without, but my friend and I walked out of the theatre ridiculously happy and when our co-worker asked if it was better than The Princess and the Frog, we both said yes. So there's that. xD

Also, Flynn needs to be my boyfriend, like, yesterday.

· Cars 2 trailer ... do not want. Apparently part of the movie takes place in Japan. Still do not want.

· omg Flynn must have had the biggest concussion after the events of this movie. After a while I was just like, guys, please stop hitting him in the head, you are giving me a headache.

· UGH is Disney's golden age of awesome songs really over? Because every time someone started singing I was reminded of the Bum Review of Princess and the Frog: "Please find Alan Menken!" Except this time the guy who wrote the songs WAS Alan Menken!! So I seriously have no idea what happened because I have never not liked his stuff before. But all of the songs in this were trying to be so epic and they just weren't. I liked the song in the tavern and the reprise of the villain's song but Disney classics they are not. Perhaps Hunchback of Notre Dame sapped Menken of all his inspiration for songs about people stuck living in towers or something, I dunno. But I really liked the background music at least.

OH AND ALSO the love song used the line "it's crystal clear" and perhaps I have just watched Aladdin one too many times but my reaction to this was OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!

· lol at Rapunzel's subconscious having her paint the symbol of the kingdom all over her room without even knowing it, hahaha that scene was so bizarre. I totally loved her many hobbies though!

· There was only one scene where I really noticed the 3-D (although to be honest I prefer movies like this and Toy Story 3 where the 3-D is nice and subtle), and I have no idea how that scene is going to look in 2-D! I can only imagine it looking really weird. :B

· So what I really want to talk about in regards to this movie is Flynn's death! The movie starts off with him narrating and telling the audience that this is the story of how he dies. To which the audience is like, pshaw, this is a Disney movie and you're the hero so what are you even talking about.

AND THEN HE DIES!

And it's a really awesome and sweet and unique (for Disney) scene and I was just like omg omg omg omg Disney just killed off one of their animated heroes THIS. IS. AMAZINGGGG.

(And there's blood!! The only other Disney hero I can think of who actually sheds blood is Tarzan, who I think only bleeds when Sabor claws him - even when he gets shot his skin remains pristine!)

... And then Flynn is revived in pretty much the same way that Ash is revived in the first Pokémon movie. And I can't even lie I was really disappointed. As awesome as Flynn is, it was such a good scene before his revival and how crazy would it have been for a Disney movie to end with the heroine finishing the story by herself, I would have loved it.

Buuuut I guess Disney has to keep their younger audience in mind, as I was reminded by the little girl who cried out "I don't like this movie anymore!" as Flynn lay dying. Oh well~.

But speaking of Disney's audience, in our audience of perhaps eleven people, six of them were adults who had come either by themselves or with another adult. FOUR of them were thirty- or forty-something men who had come by themselves!! I mean I know most kids are in school right now and other audiences will be different, but still! I really thought that was awesome.

· Loved the reference to the Pirates ride! Even if it wasn't meant to be a reference I'm going to keep believing that it was, but ... how could it not be? :B

· I really loved this movie but I'm failing at finding specific positive things to say about it! But it was adorable and funny with really pretty animation. It's a Disney princess movie but it's pretty different from the other Disney princess movies and also Flynn is in it, so you should all go see it. xD

Aaaand once my initial YAY NEW DISNEY MOVIE!!! high is over, I shall look forward to reading what everyone else has to say about it. :D And when my classes start I'll regain access to all the academic journals so brb printing off every feminist analysis of this movie that gets published! I am excited about going back to school on its own but I get even more excited when I remember this. xD

And on that "oh god Sarah stop being so weird" note, I'm out! :D
