So I started organizing my Japan photos this morning in anticipation of posting them here, but then I started getting depressed about my trip being over so instead I think today I'll post a different overdue entry. :)

This is going to be a short update because I am feeling terribly lazy today. After I received the report on Steven's Special Gift, I sent a Special Gift for Yesica, who lives in Colombia and turned twelve last month. So here it is, my last Special Gift of 2008! (Pics hosted just fine by Photobucket but scanned even worse this time by me.)

Yesica received skirts, blouses, bed sheets, socks, and hygiene items. According to the list, she also received "1 cookies" - much like Steven's "1 candies." xD I love that they use the remaining money to buy the kids something little but fun.

The report reads: This donation is very useful to the child since she will have new clothing to wear for the first time. Yesica will use the set of bed sheets received for her bed since she really needed them. This donation will contribute to help the quality of life for Yesica and her family.

I confess I love the GINORMOUS Christmas tree in the background. xD That one ornament is as big as her head!! But even better than the Christmas tree is that on the back of Yesica's letter, she drew a picture of two girls exchanging wrapped presents. Aww~ so sweet. :)

My next bit of sponsorship news is not terribly exciting right now, but hopefully it will be soon! You may recall I briefly mentioned writing CI to ask if any of my sponsored children's families would be interested in starting an Income Generating Project. Turns out that most of them are!! This was really bad timing on my part, because I started receiving the replies right after I quit my job and right before I went on my expensive trip, so I haven't been able to get any of these projects going quite yet. But I'm really looking forward to them! Keyly's family owns a piece of land they'd like to turn into a small farm; Kelvin's family is interested in selling second-hand clothes; Mercy's family is interested in running a small shop; Ma.Fe's father is interested in buying a pedicab and driving people around. (Yesica's and Steven's families are happy with their current employment.) Since some of these projects are a little out of my reach, I've recently been in contact with Aura's House, a web site that helps CI sponsors raise funds for projects for their sponsored children. So some of my projects are currently on the waiting list for that. It might be a bit of a wait but if these projects help the families to improve their lives, then it'll definitely be worth it. :)
