merry christmas!!! :) :) :)
I am sad that none of my friends have posted their Christmas junk lists, haha, it makes me feel like such a material girl that every year I post about what I got. But I like to look back at the different years and see these lists. Perhaps this is a trait I unknowingly inherited from my grandmother; when we were cleaning out her part of the house, my mother found a list she'd written of the gifts we gave her last year. But somehow it seems weirder to write it out for yourself than to write it on your LiveJournal ... well I guess it really isn't. Anyway.
Here is a summary of my Christmas presents this year: ZOMG DISNEY!!! XD XD XD XD In my stocking I got a package of Disney Princess bandaids (my brother got Superman haha), and the cover makes it look like there is a bandaid with both Al and Jas on it but NO!! I got one bandaid with Jasmine on it and the rest are your usual Disney Princesses - Ariel, Cinderella, etc. Ahahaha, WELL FINE! XD I also got Treasure Planet, the Disneyland, U.S.A. special Disney DVD thing (I have an embarrassing number of these fancy pants special collection Disney DVDs, have I told you? once I saw a guy holding one on the bus and I was like ZOMG THAT'S THE BOY FOR ME ahahaha), and two unofficial books about Disney, Mouse Under Glass and Mouse Tales. Which will hopefully be interesting even though I know to take all unofficial material about Disneyland behind-the-scenes with a grain of salt. :P And PIRATES!!!! A PotC2 calendar (mysteriously featuring a picture from the first movie on the cover), a Megablocks Jack Sparrow (my brother had to put it together for me, I am inept), the PotC2 soundtrack (look at me pretending I didn't illegally download it all as soon as I saw the movie, hahaha), and the Legend of Jack Sparrow video game. XD Aaaaah, I am such a sucker for ridiculous movie tie-in games. I adore the Harry Potter games. The whole time my brother was watching me play this PotC game (which he gave me <3 ), he was making fun of it. Hahaha! Like, he would alternate between "LAAAAAG!" and "The music is better than the rest of the game combined" and "Do you like it? You like it, right?" and "Merry Christmas! I'm the best brother ever!" XD XD XD XD!!! I like how it's kind of creative in how it twists the story to get all the characters in while still including Jack in every level, hahaha. My favourite part so far (I'm not very far, haha) is at the beginning, when we're told that the only reason Will is raiding a town with Jack is because doesn't make enough money to support himself and Elizabeth. AHAHAHA blacksmith. Oh, and then you get to play Elizabeth, and she throws hatchets. BAM!!!
My parents also gave me the fourth GALS! DVD (hahaha have you noticed how slowly I am collecting these? hahaha. I find them really amusing but they don't have enough merit for me to justify buying them for myself, hahaha!), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (I hope this movie is good, I asked for it only out of pure curiosity), a book about T-shirt surgery (I am excited! I hope to make decent skirts out of the crazy huge T-shirts I loved in middle school but no longer want to wear), and Escaflowne on DVD. XD!!!! This totally cracks me up! I love it! Five years after I became a fan of the series and I finally have a nice, legal copy. Totally exciting. XD!!!!!!!
This year I was thinking of doing my mom's stocking for her so that she would actually have some surprises when she opened it, but then I forgot and when I remembered it was too late. :( I'm a terrible daughter. :( :( As a last resort, I snuck some Ring Pops into the bottom of everyone else's stocking, and apparently my mother didn't notice them when she was loading the rest of the stuff in, so at least she got some sort of little surprise I guess? ^^; It was cute, haha. She pulled them out and cried, "There really is a Santa!" ^^;; Meanwhile, my dad was unwrapping his presents and I guess he already knew what all of the ones from my mom were, because he asked, "How do you decide what to wrap and what to just hand to me?" Ahahahaha, oh gosh. My parents are not very good at this surprise thing. XD;
Haha, all right, I guess that's done with. XD Now I shall return to my PotC game. At the moment I am rescuing Will from the silver mine I got him sent to. Jack is a man of CRAZY MORALS!!!!

The Unofficial Guide to Sarah's Christmas
Is William Superman? Am I awesome for remembering his name this time? I hope neither he nor Matthew are offended that I am forever mixing them up - I am quite aware that they have different personalities and are, in fact, different people ... I just have a problem with their names. Like, in high school, I was constantly confusing Julie and Erica, which was something that I don't think Julie appreciated too much, hah hah. Poor Julie! One day I'll make it up to her.
You have to tell me all about R&GrDead: I've been quite intrigued by its title for some years, but have never been inspired enough to rent it.
My brother didn't get me a present this year. He hasn't gotten me a present for the past three years, and he's stopped buying me birthday gifts, too. This bothers me. It bothers me that it bothers me, because I am not too terribly fantastic about gifting myself (I usually buy people presents just for the sake of buying them presents, rather than putting any actual thought into it), but the fact that everyone else in our house puts at least some effort into it, and he doesn't, annoys me. Like, I bought him that book, and then had to go back to the store and return it and get a different one ... THAT WAS EFFORT. And I kind of feel like I did it in vain, because he didn't seem to care.
Re: The Unofficial Guide to Sarah's Christmas
I think the only reason my brother got Superman bandaids is because my mother goes to the store, sees something that is Disney Princess, decides to buy it for me, then figures she has to buy something equivalent for my brother, when he is usually no more than indifferent to whatever the equivalent turns out to be. This is how it worked with our advent calendars, at least. I was like "ZOMG DISNEY PRINCESS ADVENT" and then my mother had to choose between Spider-man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for my brother. Haha! He obviously needs to be five years old, like me.
I am very pleased that you got his name right. :) I knew you would someday! hehe. At least so far you haven't messed up to his face ... right? (And yes, I would hope you are aware they are different people, especially now that you have seen them together in the same room. XD )
R&GrDead ... I feel like I didn't really get it. Like, I mean, I kind of got it, and I'd read before that it's supposed to be about how they are fictional characters and have no idea what's going on and stuff, but I didn't find that to be as clear as I thought it would be? I think anyway I had too much time to build it up in my head; this is why I don't enjoy Princess Bride as much as I could, because I was imagining what it would be like for at least a year before I actually saw it, and then was disappointed, because of course it could never be as funny as what was in my head. Not to totally trash R&G, there were definitely some good parts, and witty banter, and interesting observations, and the whole time Gary Oldman kept making faces that made me go "Sirius!! ;_; ;_; ;_;," hahaha. I feel like if I watch it again I'll probably like it better. It's just the ending kind of confused me.
And you would be totally lost watching this movie if you had never read Hamlet, hahaha. XD Watching the parts they took directly from the play made me really want to watch that terrible, terrible Bill Murray version again. When I saw it on TV I was able to see it in a much more serious light than I did when I watched it the first time. Oh, why do I have such bizarre affection for that film.
And one more tangible thing that bothered me about G&R was that they did the play-within-a-play, but they did it like TWENTY KAJILLION TIMES. At one point they had a play-within-a-play-within-a-play, and it might have been clever if we hadn't already seen said play twenty thousand times in full. x_x;
But anyway!!!! My scathing comments aside, hahaha, if you want to borrow it, then just ask. Or we could watch it. Or whatever. Hey, did I tell you Saved! was on TV a week or so ago? But I only found it when it was on the very last scene. :( Haha, it evens out, I watched the first half of it last month some time, hahaha. I really like the way that movie was filmed. It just seems so crisp and clean and organized and I like it. :)
That's weird that your brother stopped getting you presents. It never even occurred to me that my brother might not get me a present, or vice versa. My parents don't really exchange presents with their siblings but that's because they've either drifted way apart or because they never really celebrated Christmas to begin with. Man, I would be so mad if my brother stopped getting me presents, because he always gets me the best one!! XD;; Does your brother get your parents presents? If so I would be so mad!!! You should confront him about this. Use lots of action words. XD!!! THAT IS MY AMAZING ADVICE FOR TODAY!
(I am listening to my brand new PotC2 soundtrack and as such am quite dismayed I have no PotC2 icon to stamp upon this comment. :( )
Birnbaum's Guide to Sarah's Christmas
My parents do the same thing with parallel presents - last year, Robbie got a PC Gamer, because he loves them, and they felt they had to get me a magazine, too, supposedly to match. Natch. It was a good magazine - some anime update thingy - but it was quite obvious they bought it for the effect of parallel gifts in the stockings.
I am on a roll - spelling Hitomi correctly, not calling Matthew William or vice versa ... I loved your brother's reaction when he walked into the suite and saw Matthew there! [So totally almost typed "William" there. Sigh.]
Having not seen the movie, I feel that I have little to say about R&G, aside from the fact that your negative review is completely in line with all the other reviews I've read about it. And I still want to watch it, so what does this say about me? Especially because I don't really like Hamlet all that much.
My brother just bothered me this holiday season. I asked him on Christmas Eve what he was getting for Dad (you will remember that I bought Dad's present that afternoon, sigh) and he said, "Um ... I forgot." This turned out to be a lie, because he didn't buy ANYBODY presents. I wish he hadn't lied. He does that often - instead of saying, "No, I don't want to watch that movie with you," he says "I'll be in in a few minutes" and then never shows up. Sigh. I wish he didn't do retarded stuff like this. It's as though he's afraid of punishment or something ... ? Maybe I abused him as a child.
[This is my first PotC icon. From now on, I think I'll just splice everything in my life with Shakespeare.]
