fantasound
May. 12th, 2007 03:13 amToday I came home from work and watched Fantasia without any fastforwarding whatsoever! I think this is a first! I remember watching it as a kid and fastforwarding through everything but the Nutcracker Suite, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the dinosaur part of The Rite of Spring, and some of Dance of the Hours, although by that time I was usually too bored to pay attention.
Ah, childhood.
Also, I wish I could see the word Fantasia without hearing Bastian whispering obnoxiously. "Fantaaaaaaaasiaaaaaaa!" AUGH, Bastian, get out of my head!!!!
Anyway, my Fantasia ranking:
1) The Sorcerer's Apprentice - I was thinking that maybe one of the reasons I find Fantasia 2000 easier to watch than its predecessor is because there are more beginning-middle-end stories in it. At least this one is an actual story! And I have watched it way too many times. There is even a part I always have to rewind and watch again. XD You know you love it too!
2) Nutcracker Suite - I feel bad ranking this so high because it is EVERYONE'S Fantasia favourite. And also the dancing flowers actually kind of creep me out. But when I was younger this was my favourite because of all the fairies. Now I like the fish. Hahaha.
3) The Rite of Spring - I question the historical accuracy of all the other dinosaurs just hangin' out while T-rex devours the stegosaurus, but in reality I know nothing about dinosaurs, so maybe! Also, this is what animated dinosaurs should be like. Not those sappy, talking Dinosaur characters. Am I right?
4) Night on Bald Mountain - I always think this is going to be longer, and it never is. But man, I love creepy old school animation. Its age makes it even better.
5) Toccata and Fugue in D Minor - I am a newspaperman's daughter, I don't really get along with teh abstract. I always fastforwarded over this when I was younger but I actually watched it today and was pleasantly surprised. But I think maybe I only liked it so much because it's the first one, so when watching it I was still all, "Woohoo, movie time, yeah!" And I do like the music. If I didn't like the music I would be back to my fastforwarding ways.
6) Pastorale Symphony - Okay, I lied, I actually used to watch this one a lot, back when I was at that age where multicoloured unicorns were like the best thing ever. Now I watch this and after a couple minutes I am ready to move on. I do like the various creatures and the gods are really cool, but I just wish there was a proper plot. And also that shot where the cherub's bottom turns into a heart? DISTURBING. DO NOT WANT. Although I am quite amused by the matchmaking ways of the centaurs. "Why, you have blue skin! I have blue skin, too! We have SO MUCH IN COMMON!!"
7) Dance of the Hours - I feel like I would like this better if it were placed earlier in the film, but it's not, and by the time I get to it I am always like "ALL RIGHTY LET'S GET TO THE DEMONS AND BE DONE WITH IT." The music is overused ("camp is very entertaining / and they say we'll have some fun when it stops raining"), the characters are not cute, and I can never remember what happens because I always space out. Dancing ostriches? DO NOT WANT.
8) Ave Maria - Seriously, guys, just roll the credits already.
