So I've only had one customer before who asked to get something for free, and as I recall the conversation went something like this--

Customer: Can I get that for free?
Sarah: Nope. :D
Customer: Are you suuuure?
Sarah: Yep. :D
Customer: ... Oh.

But today! A customer ordered a salad and so I gave him his package of dressing.

Customer: Can I have another dressing?
Sarah: Sure, that'll be fifty-nine cents.
Customer: Really? I don't want to use my Internet* again.
Sarah: Okay. [clears the till screen]
[pause]
Customer: You know, you could give it to me for free. It won't kill you.
Sarah: My manager is standing right behind me.
Customer: I'll ask her, then. [louder] Can I have another dressing?
Manager: Sure, that'll be fifty-nine cents.
Customer: I'm not going to use my Internet again.
Manager: Okay. [goes back to what she was doing]
[pause]
Customer: Could I have some napkins?
Sarah: There are two on your tray. Would you like some more?
Customer: I'd rather have my dressing. [leaves]

I GET SUCH A HUGE KICK OUT OF THIS

* He meant "Interac," the debit card thing. But what a bizarre confusion!
