OKAY EVERYONE

I KNOW I ASK THIS QUESTION LIKE EVERY YEAR BUT I'M ASKING IT AGAIN

I WANT TO KNOW YOUR TOP TEN FAVOURITE DISNEY SONGS!!

I'm limiting myself to just the animated movies, and one song per movie (and I'm leaving out "That's How You Know" because I already talked about it today) but you don't have to if you think a certain movie's soundtrack is vastly superior. xD

10. "One of Us," The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride

This is one of those movies where I listen to the soundtrack more than I watch the actual movie, lol. I think a lot of the songs were taken from the Broadway musical, but I don't remember whether or not this one was.

9. "I Wanna Be Like You," The Jungle Book

I have a secret love for The Jungle Book. x)

8. "Once Upon a Dream," Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is here to represent the old guard! I dislike the way Philip comes in all HEY LET ME MACK ON YOU, but this song is such a Disney classic. x)

7. "Portobello Road," Bedknobs and Broomsticks

The first comment on this video: "so he's really pimpin Portobello road out to her, then they show up and he talks shit to EVERYBODY." Oh my god, I am dying. xDDD

(This song goes on forever, with a huge dance break in the middle. Mainly I just like the parts where they're singing.)

Also: I have heard Bedknobs and Broomsticks referred to as a lesser Mary Poppins, but HATERS TO THE LEFT because I have always liked Bedknobs and Broomsticks better.

6. "Prince Ali (Reprise)," Aladdin

"Friend Like Me" and "Prince Ali" are AWESOME live, while I've never seen this one quite work. (Seriously, stop staging this song with people just standing around!) But in the movie it's my favourite.

5. "Hellfire," The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Who else remembers watching this movie for the first time and not understanding 100% what this song was about? Believe it or not, I used to be even more naive than I am now! xD

4. "A Star is Born," Hercules

Why yes, my favourite song from Hercules is indeed the song that plays over the end credits. xD;

Also: when the California Adventure Aladdin show ended, I was really really hoping that it would be replaced with a Hercules show, because could you imagine how awesome that would be?? But silly me, I forgot how Disney likes to pretend that Hercules doesn't exist. :/

3. "Worthless," The Brave Little Toaster

I love the instrumentals in this song. And like everything else about this song. Brave Little Toaster is only kinda sorta Disney but I had to sneak it in here because it is amazing!

I spent all of Cars waiting for a reference to this song and I never ever got one. :|

2. "Son of Man," Tarzan

This song just makes me really happy, I dunno why. x)

1. "Poor Unfortunate Souls," The Little Mermaid

I've already rambled and rambled about this song and its pure awesomeness on previous occasions, so I guess I'll spare you this time. ;)

I would say I'm sorry for posting twice in one evening about essentially the same thing, but ... I'm not. :D

Oh god, right up my alley.

1. I'll Make a Man Out Of You - Mulan - whether it's Donny Osmond in English or Jackie Chan in Mandarin I effin' LOVE this song. Best treadmill song ever.

2. Son of Man - Tarzan - I love this one too and I don't get it because I don't so much love Phil Collins. I also kind of love Strangers Like Me.

3. Savages - Pocahontas - I also don't know why I love this one, I just do. I didn't even love that flick so much but that song is cool.

4. Circle of Life - Lion King - Classic as motherfuck. The whole intro in Zulu is something I just totally dig. It's also the reason I love Baba Yetu from Civ IV, just the whole tribal chant sound is awesome.

5. Part of Your World - The Little Mermaid - This song is memories, man. My best friend and I used to sing this when the movie came out, we were like, six, and we'd take turns pretending to be Ariel. Good times.

6. Goodbye May Seem Forever - The Fox and the Hound - No Disney song reduces me to bawling like a baby like this one, jesus fuck.

7. Go the Distance - Hercules - Michael Bolton makes me LOL for real. For some reason this song just reduces me to giggles every time.

8. A Whole New World - Aladdin - I can remember when we decided to have Disney Music Day in the club spaces in college, and my then-friend-now-boyfriend-of-five-years were standing on the desk pretending it was a magic carpet, singing this.

9. Once Upon a Dream - Sleeping Beauty - Fantastic song. I think it made that movie for me.

10. Beauty and the Beast - (Obvious) - I think I still have a VHS tape of my two best friends singing this in a musical in like 7th grade. Whenever I hear this song I remember that night. I was working stage crew and set design, but I watched from the wings.

[identity profile] spakadoodle.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
FWIW not it any particular order, either.

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I'm enjoying seeing how many people include this song. xD "Reflection" got all the promotion but this seems to be everyone's favourite anyway!

2. "Strangers Like Me" is so good! I actually heard it playing in the drug store the other day, oddly enough.

3. "Savages" is my favourite part of Pocahontas, I can't even lie. The reprise is really cool too.

6. I haven't watched that movie in forever just because I think it'll really make me bawl. D:

8. ahahaha, that's such a classic duet song. xD

10. That's awesome that you were doing stage crew and set design in seventh grade! We didn't get to do any of that sort of stuff until high school. Even then I didn't do as much of it as I would've liked to.

[identity profile] spakadoodle.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, where I come from seventh grade IS high school, you only are in high school until you're 16. I was still pretty young but my art skillz are mad so they recruited me.

[identity profile] frauleinfrog.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, yeah, not so good with the names, and also not in order. Hopefully I can think of ten! Here we go:

1. I'll Make a Man out of You, Mulan- because there can be no more awesome song, and I love how men are mysterious~ (Heck yeah, actually borrowing Chinese culture!)

2. Once Upon a Dream (which I totally want to call "I know you"), Sleeping Beauty- my sister and I sing this to each other all the time, lovelovelove it.

3. Hercules!, Hercules- or whatever the song is called where they're all like, "Who put the glad in Gladiator? Hercules ... Is he sweet? OUR FAVORITE FLAVOR!" Aaaah, I love it, with the wordplay and the corporate sell-out.

4. Cinderelly, Cinderella- Umm, this was my favorite movie for a while. So I sing stuff from it a lot.

5. You ain't never had a friend like me, Aladdin- Cuz I'm a sucker for cheerful things~

6. The part with the bubbles from Cinderella- I might be getting off track here, but I always loved that song and would get really mad at the cat when he tromped through and interrupted her.

7. Be Our Guest, Beauty and the Beast- Because how do you not?

8. Bear Necessities, the Jungle Book- I also love "I wanna be like you" and the Beatles Vultures' song, but this one is definitely the best. ^^

9. "Everybody Wants to be a Cat" & "O'Malley the Alley Cat", the Aristocats- Because a square with a horn can make you wish you weren't born everytime he plays~ ;&hearts Jazz. & Tom O'Malley

10. Dalmation Plantation, the 101 Dalmations- We'll have a dalmation plantation, where all our dalmations can roam~

There are more (like I would like to be able to join in on the Fox & the Hound, which I loved for a while, but I haven't seen it in so long I don't remember the song. >.> Though I remember their voices!), but this is the list I thought of first, so it's what you're getting.

Omigosh, I had no understanding of that song, really, when I first saw Hunchback. I remember not liking the movie that much though, and things like that song were a big part of that.

[identity profile] frauleinfrog.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Upon reading the lists of others, possibly Cinderella was humming "A dream is a wish your heart makes" (which is another of my favorite songs from that movie, possibly #1, if only I had a memory with which to remember that)?

Also, oh man, Mary Poppins!

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, you were correct in thinking it's its own song. :)

"Sing Sweet Nightingale" is definitely my favourite from Cinderella. <3 After hearing it for the first time, Walt Disney is supposed to have asked why they ever hired multiple people to sing harmonies, when just one person works just as well! lol xD

[identity profile] frauleinfrog.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
There we go! Hello, my pretty~ *pets song*

Also, that's an awesome story! XD

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Is that actually from Chinese culture? Because I'd been wondering about that for a while! "Mysterious as the dark side of the moon" is totally my favourite line from that song, lol.

3. "Zero to Hero"! xD That song is so fantastic. It's the main reason I want to see a Hercules stage show, I feel like that could be such a flashy and fun number.

(Oh my gosh, I am watching this song on YouTube right now and the comments are killing me: "herculade? They really had commercialism in ancient greece?" "of course , al those naked man statues were to promote shorts." hahahaha!!)

... OH MY GOD I think I just realized that "what's a Grecian urn" is a pun. O_O I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS SONG ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR THE PAST THIRTEEN YEARS, WHAT IS THIS!!!

AND GOOGLE SEEMS TO INDICATE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PUN.

OH MY GOD. IS THIS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE [livejournal.com profile] athena_crikey???

Moving on!!

7. Because that song gets stuck in my head and never leaves! D: D: D:

8. Ooooh I know, I had to think about it quite seriously before I chose "Wanna Be Like You" over the vultures' song. I think their part of the movie was actually my favourite part when I was a kid.

And I know, it's so hard to choose just ten. xD

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
DID YOU KNOW THAT WAS A PUN????

[identity profile] athena-crikey.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I DID WHEN YOU WROTE IT DOWN... AND POINTED IT OUT... I don't remember if I did or not in the song. Probably not.

[identity profile] aurora-lime.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
A pun? Either I miss it, or I'm missing the context.

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Now nouveau riche and famous
He could tell you what's a Grecian earn

I SERIOUSLY NEVER EVER HEARD IT THAT WAY BEFORE

[identity profile] frauleinfrog.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This thread is amazing~

[identity profile] frauleinfrog.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I feel like it really is- I can't point to a specific point when I learned that it was, but the idea of men as being the mysterious ones, instead of women... yeah. ^^

3. OH MY GOD. IS THIS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE [livejournal.com profile] athena_crikey??? Ahahahaha, omigosh. XD I'm pretty sure it must be! Although I had a similar feeling the day I realized that Diagon Ally was a pun on diagonally. ^^;

7. I never had that problem, probably because I can only ever remember the first, like, two lines. :DDDD

8. I admit that I loved Bagheera and Baloo the best (in the movie, anyway- my actual real favorite is Rikki-tikki-tavi; real Jungle Book ftw!)

Seriously! Now that my memory has been sparked, I wish I had added "A Dream is a Wish the Heart Makes" instead of... something else. XD

[identity profile] lifty.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
10. Why Should I Worry? - Oliver & Company
9. Baby Mine - Dumbo
8. Everybody wants to be a Cat - The Aristocats
7. A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes - Cinderella
6. Circle of Life - The Lion King
5. Part of Your World - The Little Mermaid
4. Reflection - Mulan
3. You'll be in My Heart - Tarzan
2. God Help the Outcasts - Hunchback of Notre Dame
1. Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag) - Mary Poppins

I tried to put this in orer at first, but that's not enough room to get all of the good stuff in! And on a semi-related note, here's a video that I was going to mention on your last post. It just might be relevant to your interests.

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
10. Oh my gosh, this just reminds me that I still haven't watched Oliver & Company! I know this song from the commercials, though, and it sounds rockin'. :D

8. Good choice! xD I think that song is my favourite part of the movie.

1. Aaaah, I forgot about this one! So pretty. I used to play it on the piano all the time.

AND THAT VIDEO!! About five seconds in I started laughing so hard, omg. Awesome and hilarious at the same time and I will never get that tune out of my head. xD Thank you for sharing!! It's interesting to see people ranking the different voices in the comments. :D

[identity profile] missmomoko.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
wow it is interesting to see other people's choices! I have to have a good think about this because I looooove Disney songs!!

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I'm enjoying this even more than I thought I would! lol xD And it definitely took me forever to decide what to include!

[identity profile] leaf-green.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
I had a hard time with this. My list would like quite different if I weren't limited to one per film, but I'll go ahead and play by the rules. Honourable Mention goes to We Are Siamese from Lady and the Tramp, because it's the catchiest racial stereotype song!

10)Tinkerbell - The Faeries Draw Near (Loreena McKennitt does Disney, who'd have thought? THIS TOTALLY COUNTS)
9)Lion King - Circle of Life
8)Sleeping Beauty - Once Upon a Dream
7)Winnie the Pooh - The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers
6)Pocahontas - Colours of the Wind
5)
4)Lilo and Stitch - Hawaiian Roller Coaster Road
3)Pirates of the Caribbean - The Black Pearl
2)Mulan - I'll Make a Man Out of You
1)Hercules - I Can Go the Distance (the non-Bolton one. Oh, sod off.)

[identity profile] leaf-green.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
Whoops, 5 is supposed to be Gaston from Beauty and the Beast :D

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
lolll, I was singing that while walking home the other day. XD BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME.

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
it's the catchiest racial stereotype song!

lol yes, that's pretty much the only way to describe that song, isn't it. ^^;

10. LOREENA ALWAYS COUNTS! <3 I may have bought this soundtrack just for her, shhh don't tell anybody!

7. Aww, awesome! xD

1. I'm pretty sure I've never made it through the Bolton version. :X Well, I listened to it when they used to play it on Family Channel all the time, but I've never listened to it of my own volition! haha.

[identity profile] leaf-green.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad I know someone who actually shares my fangirling tendencies for McKennitt :D :D

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and!

3) Look at you being all hardcore and including background music, lol! xD But yes, I love the Pirates soundtracks soooo much, and that theme is so perfect. <3

[identity profile] freege.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE DISNEY MUSIC. :D In no particular order, and using only the ones I remember. ...I was going to try to do only one from each movie, but I gave up. xD

1. I'll Make a Man Out of You - Mulan

2. A tie between One of Us and Be Prepared from the Lion King movies. You can't make me choose! D:

3. God Bless the Outcasts - The Hunchback of Notre Dame

4. Savages - Pocahontas

5. Go the Distance - Hercules

6. Strangers Like Me - Tarzan

7. Prince Ali - Aladdin

8. Zira's Lullaby - The Lion King 2

9. Reflection - Mulan

10. Almost There - The Princess and the Frog
Edited 2010-03-05 11:25 (UTC)

[identity profile] arisha.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This is an awesome list. :D

2. This is interesting to me because, of the two, I like "One of Us" so much better! xD

3. YES. This song is so gorgeous. <3

8. omg yes. Creepy and maternal at the same time? bahaha, I love it!

[identity profile] aurora-lime.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
