Very quick entry because, as usual, I am minutes away from leaving for work. D:
As some of you might remember, this summer my sponsored child Kelvin and his family left the sponsorship program. I never updated you as to why because there wasn't much to say - what seems to have happened is that a CI employee went to tell the family that I had sent a donation so that they could start their Income Generating Project, but they weren't there, and no one in the area knew where they had gone. Isn't it weird to think that most of us have so many ways to contact each other (I counted six different ways someone could contact me), but there are still some people in some parts of the world where if you want to talk to them, you have to physically go and find them. So I really don't know what the family's situation is now, or why they moved out of the area. I can only hope that they're okay. :(
This past week - on my birthday, awesomely enough :| - I learned that Keyly, my very first sponsored child, has left the program. This came as a bit of a shock to me because I'd never imagined that my first sponsored child would leave! It's so weird to load the list of my sponsored children and have Keyly's name not be there. I received the letter today explaining that her family moved out of the program area because her father was offered a better job. So that's good, at least? But I'm actually sadder than I thought I'd be that I never got the chance to send her a final letter or anything like that.
As most of you know and some of you awesomely donated to, I had been raising funds so that Keyly's family could start an Income Generating Project. This money can't go to Keyly anymore, but it can definitely still go to my sponsored children. About half of it is going to Joseline's family so that her mother can start an IGP of making and selling jewelry. As far as I know, Joseline's father is still unemployed, so hopefully this will help them out. The other half of the funds are going to someone you haven't met yet - Peter, who was assigned to my account after Kelvin left. (I'm not sure how I feel about CI doing this? I asked not to have a new child put on my account after Keyly left, which I felt kind of horrible about but I really need to start controlling my spending better.) Peter's family will be able to use the money to start an IGP of running a small store, much like Mercy's family did last year. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who donated - now it seems you've helped two families, instead of just one! :)
