And with the money, Al can buy a shirt to go with that vest of his!

If there is one thing about Aladdin that I think is the best thing ever, it's that it never ends. XD XD;; Aladdin! Return of Jafar! Series! King of Thieves! They said that would be the end but they lied! Hercules and the Arabian Night! Great Minds Think For Themselves! House of Mouse! And just in case you thought things were settling down, here, try some Disney Princess Enchanted Tales.

Jasmine has been included in Disney Princess videos and DVDs (and CDs - I believe she sang a song about musical chairs? hahaha) before, but what makes this DVD different is it's not just reusing episodes from the series (nor are they having her sing about party games). So that's exciting. But having said that, and having now watched the trailer, I think I should probably stop being as excited as I was. This DVD definitely looks like your usual soppy Disney Princess fare. Believe in your dreams! Never give up! Disney likes to pretend its films have strong female role models whether or not they actually do, and even if this means that all the princesses have to shift personalities in the sequels in order to appear to be strong female role models. (I am being perhaps a bit harsh here, but I think it's close enough.) Last month I was going to write an entry about Jasmine's shifting characterization throughout the sequels (and why I was so bothered by "Elemental, My Dear Jasmine" when last I watched it), but I never got around to it, haha. Anyway, perhaps it's too early to point to this Enchanted Tales thing and cry "Out of character zomg!!!" ... but let me just point out that in her new song (augh, why didn't they just use the musical chairs thing), she says "Daddy's caravan," despite the fact that throughout the previous movies and episodes, she has always called him "Father." :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

I wonder when this Enchanted Tales thing is supposed to take place ... It bothers me that she's singing about how she's "more than a peacock princess" (augh why) when she's already shown that through pwning Mozenrath in "Secret of Dagger Rock." XD But Iago can be clearly seen in the trailer, which should mean that this takes place before King of Thieves (Hercules and the Arabian Night is post-KoT and excludes Iago, which totally warms my heart, but that episode was written by Aladdin writers so if Iago had been in it I would've been like, "Wha-??") ... hmm. I wonder. If they want this to fit in with the other Disney Princess releases, then I guess it'll take place in the same general timeframe as the series does.

Also of note is that only four of Aladdin's six main characters can be seen in this trailer. I am going to hope that the swirling feathers indicate an appearance by Genie, although I suspect they couldn't get his voice for Hercules and the Arabian Night (he makes an appearance, but it is extraordinarily brief) so maybe I shouldn't hold my breath. And more importantly -- hello! Where is Al? Is this their way of getting back at him for all the series episodes that Jasmine was left out of? XD XD XD

WAIT ZOMG. I just realized that Carpet appears to be computer animated. The significance of this is that he was done that way in the first movie, and then his design was simplified and he was drawn by hand for the two sequels and the series. This is an exciting development! Does this mean he's going to be the only one who's actually on-model? OH LOW BLOW!!! XD XD XD XD XD XD;;

Also the part where Jasmine is in her room with that lady who apparently stole Jasmine's street mouse outfit? Already people on the forums have pointed out that the woman looks like the character design for Al's mother. I think it's unlikely that it'll actually be her, though. And wasn't that design already used? Isn't she the "Getting into trouble a little early today" woman? (Hahaha, before I realized Al was supposed to be an orphan in that movie, I always thought that lady was his mother. XD XD XD XD )

Also that horse totally looks like it was ripped out of "A Whole New World." XD XD XD Apparently they spent all of their character design budget on that painter guy. XD XD XD OH LOW BLOW!!! XD XD XD XD XD XD;;

But man, you know me. I say bash bash bash and then on the day that this comes out (not until September, I think -- how on earth will I stand the wait???), I will so be the first in line for this, hahaha. XD XD XD XD

Oh, and if you watch the trailer you'll notice that there's actually another half to it, featuring Aurora, and, uh, a Ken doll who's been dressed like Philip. I'm, uh, trying my best to not judge it till I see it. Man, if someone told me to come up with a sequel to Sleeping Beauty, I wouldn't even have any idea where to start.

I'm really just bitter because giving Sleeping Beauty a sequel-of-sorts ruins my annoyance at the way Aurora and Philip become mutes halfway through that movie. I dunno why. I just feel like I no longer have the right to be as annoyed as I previously have been. Even though I'm pretty sure these latest incarnations of the characters are probably going to have different voice actors ... :P :P :P :P
