INSTRUCTIONS
01. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
02. I respond by asking you five questions of a very intimate and creepily personal nature. Or not so creepy/personal.
03. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
04. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
05. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
I've done this before, but it was almost two years ago. I would link to the post they were in but they're kind of embarrassing and I even locked the post because of it. XD; Admittedly I prefer today's questions, which were asked by
shadoweddestiny. :D
1. Does writing come naturally to you, or is it something you work hard at?
I think it really depends on factors like where I am in the process, or how often I've been writing in the past few days, or how hard I'm being on myself at the moment. I find it easier to write after I've been working on the project for a bit, but before I've gotten too invested in it. That way I'm comfortable with the characters but not freaking out about every continuity error I make. ^^; Well, I try not to freak out, I think I'm getting better, but there have definitely been days where lack of perfection has been a great hurdle to get past, haha. And if I've been writing a lot recently, then it's so much easier to get back into that mode. The last week of NaNoWriMo 2006, I was a writing fiend. Six thousand words a day was my goal, but on that one Wednesday I got nine thousand words and felt amazing about it. Like, it wasn't even difficult or painful or anything. But recently I haven't been writing as much as I should be, and so even breaking one thousand can be a challenge. (I'm the same with music composition - in grade ten when I was working on my project every day, composition wasn't a terribly difficult thing. But now ... ohmygod ... it's the most painful, frustrating thing ... I have to get back into it but it's haaaaard ... ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; )
Mostly, with writing and editing and such things, it's not the action that I find so challenging, as much as the forcing myself to actually do it. XD I'm so bad with revising things. I'll have my sheet where I've written the things I want to correct, and then I sit down at the computer ... and then I surf LJ. Which is why I have to do all my revising at three in the morning, so I can get into that desperate mood of "I just have to finish this, then I can go to bed!!!" If I try to revise at four in the afternoon, it just really doesn't work. x_x;; I'm a little better with writing, though, haha, thankfully. ^^;
2. Did Rika belong in DEF. DIVA?
I am a total Rika fangirl so I say YES OF COURSE SHE DID, JUST AS SHE BELONGS IN EVERY GROUP YOU CAN THINK OF!!! (But please take her out of "Aisu Cream to My Purin," kthx.) I think the main reason people were pointing to her as the odd one out is because her voice is weaker than the other girls' voices. Which, even though I have grown to like her voice, is rather undeniable. But I'm pretty sure she knows she doesn't have the pipes, and she works to make up for it in other ways. To me, watching the performances, Rika always seemed to embody the song better than the other girls - although that could just be my fangirlishness talking there. But someone who wasn't me once pointed out that in the repeated line "BAKA mitai," even though Maki sings in a way that is technically better, Rika puts more emotion into it. Like, she tries to make the line her own, whereas Maki is just reading off the page. That could well be just fangirly opinion, too, but to answer the question: yes, I think Rika belonged in DEF. DIVA. She can't sing as well as the other DIVAs, but she can certainly work it in other ways.
I think she also belongs in the group in terms of how the group was structured. Maki, Aya, Miki, three H!P soloists, made Gomattou. Maki, Aya, Natsumi, three H!P soloists, made Nochiura Natsumi. Maki, Aya, Natsumi, Rika were DEF. DIVA. Rika isn't a soloist, but she was a recent MoMusu graduate - as Maki was at the time of Gomattou and Nacchi was at the time of Nochiura -, and really the only reason she was given a group was before of the aforementioned singing problem. ;) So I would say that in that factor, she definitely fit into the group, and she was of the right age to fit into the group. People kept pointing out how much darker her skin was than the other girls' ... but haha, I don't think that really had much of an effect on whether she belonged or not. XD;
(If you forced me to pick DEF. DIVA's odd one out, I would say Nacchi. She's not one of my favourite H!P members but usually I like her just fine. But in DEF. DIVA, at the end of all the performances, when the other girls were looking sexy and somber, Nacchi was SMILING. LIKE A MANIAC. And every time I was like NACCHI, FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE STOP SMILING. But ... it's okay. I'm trying to pretend like I'm over that rage. XDXDXD )
3. What part of your Disneyland trip are you most excited about?
I was asked this a couple weeks ago by a friend of mine and I told her I was most looking forward to seeing Aladdin onstage in California Adventure. Really I only said this because it was the most intellectual thing I could think of. XD Like, "I would like to see how such a popular movie was translated in order to become a popular stage show, hem hem," sort of thing. I definitely am looking forward to seeing that, but I don't know that I would say it's the thing I'm most excited about. But I don't know what I'm most excited about! Hahaha. XD Definitely seeing the characters (haha dork!), definitely rides like Indiana Jones or the Matterhorn that I didn't get to experience when I last went thirteen years ago ... but in a way I kind of think I'm most excited about just seeing how the whole park fits together, and how the different lands are put together to give off their particular atmospheres, and all the theming and other such things you would never really appreciate at age seven. XD;
It's probably true that I'm a bit too excited for this trip, but that's okay I think. XD; A couple days ago an earthquake warning was issued (they've since lowered the level of the warning, omg thank goodness now maybe I can stop feeling anxious because earlier today I was sort of making myself miserable with it all) and this is terrible but my first reaction was OMG NO I CAN'T DIE SO CLOSE TO DISNEYLAND!!!!!! ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_; ;_;
(Today is two weeks till take off. XD I AM SO NOT READY!!!!!!! XD;;; )
4. What's your favorite thing about Canada?
That I can get away with spelling "favorite" as "favourite"? Hehehehe~ XD This is a really hard question for me to answer because Canada is pretty well my whole life, so it's hard to pick out one thing and say, "That's it! That's the best thing about Canada!" Y'know? But I am very glad to live in a country where I can be free and vote and for the most part not be discrimated against because I'm a girl and live a nice life and all that other good stuff. And Canada is where most of my favourite people live, and it's where Jay Ingram lives, and it's where George Stroumboulopoulos (one day I am going to be able to spell that without looking it up) lives. XD Waaaugh, I don't know what kind of answer to give. XD
My favourite thing about Canada is going to protest on top of Peterman's Bridge. (Bad joke?) XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD
5. What puts Aladdin above other Disney animated movies?
I feel like if I were a movie reviewer, I would tell people just to look at the credits for the proof that this has to be a great movie. XD (But don't look at the credits listed on IMDb, I have just discovered that they are teh suck.) Ron Clements, John Musker, Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio, Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, Glen Keane, Andreas Deja, Robin Williams (recently he's really started to annoy me, but I still like his movie work from the '90s), Lea Salonga, and everyone else I'm leaving out just because I can't list everyone. XD It was Disney animation's second Golden Age ("Golden Period"? I always get mixed up which one is Disney and which one is MoMusu xD ), the story had already endured ages and ages, and with the same basic staff as The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, of course Aladdin would turn out to be fantastic.
But I'm not a movie reviewer, and really I think it's all just personal preference. XD And I sort of find personal preference really hard to figure out. But let's see. I love how Aladdin is such a colourful movie, and even when I was younger I loved how sparkly it all is. The colouring of the jewels and the gold and the sand and the magic, it's so fantastical but it's gorgeous. And even the background music has a sort of sparkly quality to it, haha, I love it. XD Admittedly, the soundtrack is not my favourite Disney soundtrack, but it did get its share of Academy Awards and
the_wykydtron tells me that "A Whole New World" is one of her favourite Disney songs, so perhaps I am just odd. XD Mostly I think I really like the story. I like little touches of betrayal in stories, and Aladdin has that, with him lying to everyone. I am a total dork who likes stories where a commoner falls in love with royalty. XD; And I quite like most of the characters. Well, I've moaned about Jasmine in the past, but she's better in the movie than in any of the sequels, at least. XD Haha, I find things like this really hard to put into words. Like, why do I like this movie? Because I do? Hahaha ... "Better check your crystal ball again, Jafar!," hahahaha, awesome. XD XD XD I like the relationships between the characters, too. I like Al and Genie's friendship a lot. Just the whole movie is awesome. Most movies have scenes that I'll fastforward when I watch them, but the only scene in Aladdin I would ever even think to fastforward is the "Jafar ... has done ... something ... terrible" scene, and that's only like five seconds long anyway so I don't really have to. XD
I mean, this movie does have stuff that I know people have complained about. I know there have been accusations that this movie is racist. I think that certain characters are a bit stereotyped, but I don't believe there's any actual racism in the movie. I think a bigger problem than that is how Westernized the whole thing is, but this is a problem I prefer just to ignore. And if you're able to ignore that, I do think it's an awesome movie. XD
(My absolute favourite moment: "Say hello to your precious! Prince! Ali!" XDXDXDXD My family has stopped watching the movie with me since I started reciting along with it. XDXDXDXDXD;;;; )
