Man, I love the stories of people from your Japanese class!
<<the stories were really good and everything but we didn't see any ghosts>>
That's because there weren't any pirates. But we can remedy that.
<<You can see I can be very stuck-up when I want to be.>>
Anyone who has read Genji has rights that other people do not. It's like nomianism: you are one of God's elect, and therefore the rules of humankind do not apply to you. If I ever read Paradise Lost, I am going to consider everyone else in the world to be a second-class citizen, and quite inferior to myself.
I quite like your conception of Hitome and Allen's relationship - I got the sense from the beginning of the series that Hitome and Van are supposed to be together, and Allen just messes things up. I kind of feel that my own relationship with Allen is a dulled-down parallel of Hitome's: "Allen's so hot! Allen's so cool! Um, Allen's not as cool as I thought he was. Hm, being in love with a knight is kind of frustrating. Um ... VAN!"
That's a bad paraphrase, but I agree that Allen didn't break Hitome's heart. Hitome just outgrew her crush - because that's all it was, a crush. Puppy love. You could even say that she substitued/transferred her love for Allen onto Van, ho ho ho. But no, I disagree with myself - Van and Hitome have a very different relationship than Hitome and Allen. ... Do Hitome and Allen even HAVE a relationship?
We need to watch this series again so I we can debate about it without me feeling like I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
<<Ahahaha, would you rather I posted about Escaflowne or about PotC2?>>
NO. Although the more you talk about Genji, the more I vow to myself that I shall never read it, and bless my stars that I shall probably never have to.
