I don't know about the first question, but for the second one I would say the 7-11 employee who, when I was lost in Osaka, left his store, called me a taxi, and then explained to the taxi driver how to get to my hotel. I am still always super impressed when I think of that guy!
Also, because this entry feels too short, I shall post the amusing message that spent last week on the church sign I pass on the way to work:
Smile if you love Jesus.
