Today I had a customer who was looking at me funny and then eventually she came right out and said, "You really look familiar." Thinking that "You don't look familiar at all" would be a rude thing to say, I replied with the only other thing I could think of to say, which was "Really? I don't know why." And she seemed to think this was a rude thing to say even though I was really doing my best to try to avoid being rude! Hahaha.

So I went to the back of the store to seek advice. "What do you say when someone says, 'You look really familiar'?" I asked. And my manager replied, "You say, 'Oh, really?'" So I guess next time that is what I will say and I will leave it at that.

Unless I am feeling bold, in which case I will eagerly cry, "Of course I look familiar, we were roomies at band camp!"

(Maybe she thought I was Kelly.)

A much more stellar example of holding my tongue occurred last month when a customer came up and said, "I'm just going to have my usual. Do you know what my usual is?" and I came oh so very close to replying with "Lady, I've never seen you before in my life."

... because seriously.
